Blessings and peace! I am hoping to find some answer to this question.
I grew up in the Catholic Church and my whole life (42 years) I have always heard, said and/or sung the following for the Lamb of God before communion:
Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world, have mercy on us. Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world, have mercy on us. Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world, grant us peace.
In the last few years, I have noticed that the *have mercy *portion, is repeated as many as five times, prior to saying grant us peace. Its unnerving to me and seems that our choral director is trying to fill space rather than following what I know to be the traditional mass.
What does the church teach about this norm? I would like to have some knowledge before I approach our pastor.
Thank you!
