Large Families and Financial Struggles and NFP

I was born in the early 60’s, oldest of 4. My parents had many comments about their “large family”. For some reason, folks seem to think it is their business 🙂

That’s crazy pants, because that was a very normal family size for the time.

If you look at the 20th century fertility chart there, that era was the peak TFR for US women in the 20th century, with a peak of over 3.5. (They don’t give the exact number on that page, but it’s a smidge higher than 3.5.)

4 is a lot of kids now (given that the TFR has flatlined around 2 kids since the early 1970s), but it wasn’t in the 1960s.
 
Well, we were all still 13 and under by the mid 70’s, so, that was during flatline time.
