Car seats and strollers are both a blessing and a torture device.
I have some gigantic double strollers, because my children are closely spaced, but I love my little umbrella stroller. As soon as each child is old enough, they walk and I downsize to the little umbrella stroller. But my 3yo right now is refusing to cooperate with that pattern, and will run off and hide in public places if she is not firmly strapped into her stroller!
I would be unable to go out in public with the children, even to church, were it not for the car seats and gigantic strollers.
That being said, now that I am expecting my fifth (pray for me and my unborn baby to have a successful pregnancy, please) we will be stretching the limits of the minivan. Four out of five children will be in car seats of some sort!
