I wonder how many of these respondants even know anything about the Catholic Church other than what they see in the “news”?
No question that there are many (inside & outside the faith) who have little clue about what we actually believe and only know what they get spoon fed from the major media sources.

Here is an update on the poll: cnn.com/CNN/Programs/larry.king.live/

21% Favorable = 966 votes
79% Unfavorable = 3575 votes
Total votes cast = 4541

I wonder how many members from CA have gone over to vote?

And not surprising when the Church, for no particular reason that can be seen, takes an arbitrary jab at the world by reissuing statements about everybody else not having true churches and being defficient. That’s always a sure way to endear people.
Either Jesus founded the Catholic Church or he didn’t.
Had there been a true question on the Church’s belief on the matter that needed to be answered, I could have seen some need to clarify, though possibly in a way that wasn’t quite equivalent to poking a stick in people’s eyes.
I’m sorry you don’t except the Word of God word for word.
I’m sure I’ll be attacked here as supporting the nebulous “false ecuminism” or being a “relativist”, but it’s not about me believing all religions to be equal or not believing our Church to be the deposit of truth. It is simply about human relations and how one conveys the Word of God and the message of Jesus to a needy world. I’m one of those, as a Franciscan, who believes that Francis’s command to “preach the gospel always; use words if necessary” isn’t compatible with this kind of statement.
Oh really? Then you disgrace St. Francis of Assissi what a pity.
Putting people on the defensive through triumphalistic statements is not the way to inspire conversion and/or transformation. Modeling the gospel as Francis did, and as Jesus did, in a non-confrontational way, is still the only way to show the beauty of the love of God.

Peace,
Was Peter foaming at the mouth when he said, “There’s no other name which you can saved except through Jesus Christ alone.”

Larry King has a poll about the Catholic Church, when I saw it early this morning it showed that 79% of the voters had an UNFAVORABLE view of the Church.

Here is a link if you care to look at (or take) the poll: cnn.com/CNN/Programs/larry.king.live/

When I saw the poll:
  • 882 voters had a favorable view
  • 3382 voters had an unfavorable view
  • 4268 total voters took the poll
The poll proves we must be doing something right–the spirit of the world always wages war agains the Spirit of Truth and the Body of Christ.

so protestants are godless? and you gotta be a liberal?

interesting…the catholic church is always the victim seems. you would never know different on this board.

everyone else is the son of satan.
You misread my statement. The godless are the liberals (socialists, communists, atheists, etc). Protestants feel that they are following god, but cast out the teachings of the true church. Historically they have been amongst the most intolerant of any of the Christian faiths, a good example would be the membership of the KKK.

Larry King’s from CNN viewers have an unfavorable view of teh Catholic Church???

[SIGN]Shocking. Simply shocking[/SIGN]

Oh, and you forgot one more thing…I wonder how many of these respondants even know anything about the Catholic Church other than what they see in the “news”?
This reminds me of a quote by Archbishop Fulton Sheen:

“There are not one hundred people on the United States who hate the Catholic Church, but there are thousands who hate what they think the Catholic Church is.”

Perhaps you didn’t mean to come across as very harsh, but it sounded that way. The vast majority of Protestant would abhor the practices of the KKK. They would have a much more favorable opinion of the Catholic Church than this group.

Furthermore, most of our separated brethren (I am a former one) deeply love the Lord, and if they knew the truth of the Catholic faith, they would convert. Most of them fall in the category of “through no fault of their own.”

For many of us it’s easy to see the truth of the Church, but are we to forget that the grace to see is a profound gift? Indeed, it is a profound gift! It took me many months of intense study, prayer, and confirming miracles to convince me, and although I would have died for the Lord has a Protestant, I was very stubborn in seeing the splendor of our beloved Mother Church.

Historically, other than Catholics and the Orthodox, Protestants have given more glory to God than any other religion or worldview. They are missing a lot, but there is far more that unites us than divides us. They are far from being the enemies.

I have left the Catholic Church, but I am certainly not godless (Godless) nor am I liberal. I am pretty conservative. Maybe the Catholic Church is the only true church but none of us will really know until we leave this earth. In the meantime, let’s not bash those who disagree.
Who’s ‘us’?

You maybe but not the learned Catholics. It is not an opinion that the Catholic Church is the only true church.

Do your research for God’s sake before you spurt any more unintelligible remarks ! :irish1:

Honestly, Larry King is one of the worst interviewers on cable news. I do not know how he has managed to stay on so long. He asks the most mundane questions. I have only seen him a few times, but every time he is a horrible interviewer. As far as the question goes, it is also a horrible poll question. Nothing against Larry King, don’t know much about him, he is just a horrible interviewer.

Jesus showed us how to proclaim the Kingdom, and I just don’t see this being along those lines. Some may think that we can embarass people into conversion, or beat them into submission. My study of history, the gospel, and psychology doesn’t find that to be the case.
How ya gonna proclaim the Kingdom if you eliminate the truth??

Why ya think there’s so many splinters (denominations) existed? Cuz they don’t know what way is the truth.

Ya ever stop and think that those potential pagan converts would join the Church if only they know the Church is the only true Church?

It’s dang confusing having all the scattered splinters around one cannot help but to step on one of those splinters.

Cathgal:
Not everyone agrees with everything. I was a cradle Catholic, but have left the Catholic Church. I’m not saying it’s wrong but I simply don’t belong. I would not wish to bash those who agree with the Catholic Church or those who disagree. Let’s all try to get along, even if we don’t always agree. We worship the one True God so we should certainly agree on that. No more bashing of those who do not agree.
Peace!

Of course not everyone agrees w/ everything cuz not all cares to do their research. They just like to yap but hate to do the homework.

Speaking the truth does not equal to bashing.

What I don’t get is why the yappers don’t take up the challenge and prove the Pope wrong. Then they can yap all they want and no one would criticize their yapping.

So this is a poll taken by people who visit the Larry King web site? I’ll go get some of my old stat books, but I think there might be a problem with it.

Yeah! The poll is almost like asking vegetarians if they have a favorable opinion of slim jims.

Where’s the poll? The one I saw was about drug abuse and celebrities.

The poll about the Church was yesterday. I guess its pretty meaningless if you can’t see the results for previous questions.

79% of the people who heard Jesus’ message during his life on earth rejected him.

I cannot understand the intensity at which uncharitable remarks spew forth on this board. You know, there ARE people on the other side of the computer at their keyboard, you are directing your comments too, right? Would you respond this way to them if they were discussing their feelings face to face?

Some have done plenty of research…YEARS of research, and came to a different conclusion than you do. To speak down to them is quite condesending.
