Last Day of Judgement?

If we follow a good and spiritually correct life we are told that we will enter the kingdom of heaven.

Im assuming this happens just after death?

Why is it then that we also need a last day of judgement - havent we already been judged at the Pearly Gates moments after we fell of the perch?

You are judged at death and know if you will end up in Heaven or not. If you are ready for Heaven at that moment, that’s where you go. If you will end up in Heaven, but still have punishment coming for venial sins, you go to Purgatory and then to Heaven after you have “paid the last penny.” If you are going to Hell, that’s where you go.
There is a final judgment later at the end of time at which all people will be judged in front of everyone so everyone can see God’s justice and mercy. Everyone will know where everyone else ends up and why, I think. That one kind of scares me!

Good answer.

We will be judged as individuals at the moment of our death, but as we are social creatures we will undergo a general judgement. The second however does not ‘undo’ the previous decree.

The particular judgment is when we are given our due. The general judgment is when God is given His due.
