Last night I had an argument with my Mom about my future plans. I really need to get my life in order and my priorities straight. I’m attending a community college and trying to finish up my A.S. degree. I’m in my 20’s living under my parents roof.

I plan on going to a discernment retreat next summer in CO but I’m feeling very discouraged. I’ve worked and traveled but I always feel restless and am constantly searching for something more. I want to explore in options.

Now I feel stupid for thinking that I could ever be a nun! I feel a bit lost.

I was trying to explain to my Mom that just because I’m looking into different religious orders doesn’t mean that I’m not going to finish my degree.

Hi Battle-Warrior,
It’s really tough sometimes “figuring out what to do when I grow up”! : )
I know I had many awful conflicts with my mom, who I also lived with for a time in my 20s. Maybe it would be better if you didn’t discuss your vocation discernment plans with her too much, and just focus on getting through your community college program. Once that is under your belt, you will probably have better employment options, your mom will feel like you are making “progress”, and you can make a good choice as to whether God is calling you into the religious life or not.
You’re in my thoughts - - those early adult years can be very tough and confusing! Stay close to God - - He won’t steer you wrong, in whatever life path you choose! : )

I will pray for you so that you may clearly hear God’s calling. Sometimes it takes a while for us to figure out what God’s calling for us is because we have to go through certain experiences first. We have to grow spiritually and accept where God wants us to use our talents. I will pray for you and I understand how you feel. I have been and still am in that same position. Have faith, visit the Blessed Sacrament, and allow the Holy Spirit to guide you to where you need to be. No one is put on this planet for no reason, we are all a special thread in the tapestry of life.

Jesus, Divine Caller of vocations,
You invite some to chosen professions,
Others to distinctive spiritual work!
Your call may reflect one’s ambitions,
Or may be a command to a special calling.
Inspire me to always know within my heart,
What particular type of work is fitting
To do Your will at that particular time.
Your many callings vary immensely.
They are all reflections of Your Holiness.
Thank you for my heavenly calling and
For maintaining the vocation of Your choice!

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

†

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

**Most dear Jesus,
filled with sorrow during the agony in the garden,
covered with a sweat of blood while praying,
have mercy on us, O Lord.

Most dear Jesus,
delivered into the hands of the wicked by a kiss,
bound like a robber,
and abandoned by your disciples,
have mercy on us, O Lord.

Most dear Jesus,
condemned to death by an unjust Council,
taken as an evildoer before Pilate,
and ridiculed by the wicked Herod,
have mercy on us, O Lord.

Most dear Jesus,
publicly shorn of your garments,
and most cruelly scourged at the pillar,
have mercy on us, O Lord.

Most dear Jesus,
crowned with thorns,
beaten and blindfolded,
clothed in rich purple and mocked,
have mercy on us, O Lord.

Most dear Jesus,
likened to the infamous Barabbas,
rejected by your people,
and unjustly sentenced to death,
have mercy on us, O Lord.

Most dear Jesus,
burdened with the weight of the Cross
and led to the place of execution like a lamb to the slaughter,
have mercy on us, O Lord.

Most dear Jesus,
reckoned with the wicked, blasphemed, and derided,
and given gall to drink to mitigate your pain,
have mercy on us, O Lord.

Most dear Jesus,
dying on the Cross in the presence of Mary,
pierced with a lance that drew blood and water from your side,
have mercy on us, O Lord.

Most dear Jesus,
taken down and placed in the arms of your Sorrowful Mother,
have mercy on us, O Lord.

Most dear Jesus,
horribly bruised and marked with five wounds,
annointed for burial and placed in a tomb,
have mercy on us, O Lord.

My Jesus,
I thank you for dying on the Cross for my sins.
Have mercy on us, O Lord.

Amen.

Love this prayer, so I’m saying it with you for Battle-Warrior!

Is it I, Lord?

Are you calling Battle_Warrior
to a vocation as
a Sister?

Speak to her, Lord.
Open her mind and heart
to live your Word
and build your Kingdom.

Speak to her, Lord.
Plant your Word within her so that
whatever you call her to be or do
She may say, “Yes, Here I Am Lord.”

“Lord here I am!”

What would you like Battle_Warrior
to do with her life?

Teach her to do your
will, Lord.
And let your Holy Spirit
guide her!

Remembering you and your discernment in my daily prayers. God bless!

May the Lord bless the gift of joy, peace and love of the Holy Spirit upon the family of Battle-Warrior. Amen.

It can be tough especially at that stage of our lives, where we’re figuring out the person we want to become. Hang in there, and have faith in the Lord! 🙂

Direct us, O Lord,
In all our doings with
thy most gracious favor,
And further us with thy continual help;
That in all our works begun, continued,
and ended in thee,
We may glorify thy holy Name,
and finally, by thy mercy,
obtain everlasting life;
Through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Battle_Warrior, I know what you are going through! It was rough while I was finishing my Bachelors…I wish I could say life is simpler now that I have it, but it’s not 😉 I will most definitely keep you in my prayers.

Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Thank you everyone for the prayers. Things have cooled down a bit and there isn’t as much tension between us. Its hard to describe; I’ve been having this urge inside of me for something more, something deeper. Thank you Rarra1985 for the advice: right now I’ll keep focused on school and pray about a possibility of a religious vocation.
