When is it too late to recieve last rites and what happens to those that do not have a preist around in time to administer it (scince people don’t die in a fashion in which a preist is a walk away)? Thanks and God bless.

Uh… after you die.😃 But seriously, one can recieve last rites or annointing of the sick all the way up to the point of death.

They would die and face judgement as we all will. Hopefully there soul would be in a state of grace and they would enter the kingdom of Heaven. If not…

Sir, with all deference to your dignity as a human being, I beg you to remember “Priest” not “Preist”.

A priest can perform a “conditional absolution” as long as rigour mortis has not set in.

What is your source for that?
Once you are dead it is too late.

EWTN, Fr. Mitch Pacwa…I think he knows his stuff 😉

We do not know when the soul leaves the body, as such a conditional absolution may be performed before rigor mortis sets in. We are better off doing it rather than not. Also our brothers the Orthodox do another absolution at the funeral. They see it as Sacramental.

I agree its better to do it than not but I’m trying to understand why. I always understood the Church teaches the soul leaves the body at the moment of death.
Is there anything in the CCC or a Church document
on this, do you happen to know?

Nope, really busy with homework right now 😃

If you guys could pray for me it’d be great.

We have an obligation to call a priest… as soon as possible… but sometimes circumstances get in the way…

I know what all the books say… but… do the best you can…

So… just call a priest and leave it up to him… ask him to visit and let him do what he does.

What we are dealing with here is the INFINITE. Our combined intelligence and knowledge… the totality of the “IQ” of the whole human race … is about the same as a flyspeck on the wall … compared with the INFINITE… sincerely do the absolute best you can. And then leave it in God’s Hands…

Priests are anointed to “work directly with God”… they have special access to the INFINITE…

Let the priest pray over the person…

I think the document actually reads that if it is uncertain that death has occured a celebration of the Sacrament may take place.
