Ha ha, a personal injury lawyer bought Pope JP’s car. He’s going to build a museum for it. I wonder what our late Holy Father would think of that? I see our Pope chose an American built car, I’m pleased to say! 🙂

It’s actually a German Ford, but it most certainly is a product of the Ford Motor Company. German Escorts are very different from our Escorts, but the new Ford Focus is very similar to the German one and shares many design elements.

It’s my understanding that JPII’s Escort has a 1.1 liter engine, manual transmission and no air conditioning, making it one of the cheapest Ford’s you could buy over there. He certainly picked the every-man’s version. It seems fitting that he would own the most ordinary of cars.

Sounds like he got ripped off …$690,000 for a FORD.

But I am sure that they money that was raised will go towards:clapping: a worthy charity!👍

My eyes are not good. For a second I thought the heading said “Late Pope’s cat sold at auction.”

Now that might have been worth bidding on.

The money went into an old man’s wallet. The man’s son had purchased the car years ago and displayed it in his resturant. He must have been a lousy cook, because he went out of business and defaulted on a bunch of loans from his father. A law suit ensued and the result is the father got the car to help relieve debt owed to him.

From the article in the OP link…
“The pontiff clocked 96,560km (60,000 miles) on trips to the mountains for hiking and meditating before asking Kruse to sell it for charity in 1996.
Little confused…was it or was it not sold for Charity as per the Popes request??

I believe Kruse sold it in 1996 for the Pontiff with the proceeds going to charity. The current sale is not going to charity, as it is a private sale.

Got it…it is a shame though…this sale produced more funds($$$) would be nice if it also went to a charity.
