*And so, Msgr. Fellay came to the doctrinal talks. According to him, the doctrinal talks clearly showed that Rome and the SSPX disagree on all the topics dealt with by the talks such as ecumenism, collegiality and religious liberty.

Fellay then moved on to the Doctrinal Preamble. According to Fellay, the Doctrinal Preamble contains not a single word evaluating the doctrinal talks between Rome and the SSPX. In light of this, according to the bishop, the Doctrinal Preamble means that “things are back to zero”; he described the back and forth between Rome and the SSPX as " just going around in circles".

Towards the end, Fellay said that if the Society does not accept the Preamble, Rome “may” declare us schismatic, although “Rome didn’t really put it that way”. Fellay then told his listeners, “So, be ready, then.” According to him, “it is not the end yet” but things may become very difficult. If they must go through “another trial”, then “glory to God, and glory to the Blessed Virgin”!

At the same time, Fellay said that they have “information” that the Pope may have something “even better to give us in place of what we now have”. (It was not entirely clear
what was meant by that.)

You can’t be more Catholic than the Pope. These guys really have some nerve.

"the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith maintains that the fundamental basis for achieving full reconciliation with the Apostolic See is the acceptance of the text of the Doctrinal Preamble, which was handed over during a meeting on 14 September 2011. The Preamble defines certain doctrinal principles and criteria for the interpretation Catholic doctrine, which are necessary to ensure faithfulness to the Church Magisterium and ‘sentire cum Ecclesia’. [thinking with the Church]

In other words, the Doctrinal Preamble is exactly as the Vatican Press Release described it to be.

Before any other discussions can possibly procede, there needs to be a setting of the ground rules. There is basically only ONE thing that has to be agreed upon before anything else can even be talked about.

The Preamble is an agreement that the final authority on all matters related to the faith lies with the Pope and the Magisterium of the Church. It is an agreement that the SSPX must adhere to that doctrine of obedience to Rome before any OTHER issues can be dealt with.

I’m not a mind reader. I don’t have priviledged information. That is exactly what the press release states.

This is why NO OTHER DOCTRINAL MATTERS were dealt with.

This is why they are back to ZERO.

They do not want to sign a preamble that they will adhere to the Magisterium and the “thinking of the Church.”

Just remember that they have been fully and completely aware of the contents of the Preamble for 34 days now, and they still have not been able to decide what to do about it.

They’re waiting for a better offer. It’s laughable.

The patience of the Holy Father and the Cardinals involved is really unprecedented.

These Bishops need to swallow their pride and awknowledge who is in charge.

This is not an official statement from Bishop Fellay. If you read the link, it’s what some unidentified person says he said one time.

It seems like every time the subject of SSPX comes up, no matter how objectively the topic is discussed, someone has to decide that there is "bashing, " and the thread is closed.

I guess unless there is nothing but a positive and accepting approach to all things even remotely related to SSPX, the thread has to close.

Take for example the fact that a mere report was being made, copied and pasted, and linked to a website that is 100% pro Pius X Society. The very next remark is, “close the thread.”

This happens to be the same person that continually accuses me of “having an agenda,” yet manages to get every thread related to SSPX closed and/or completely removed , and always after “they” (it’s always the same two) have all of their remarks recorded. Then, no one else is ever allowed to reply.

Oh my goodness. How do I get them closed? No matter how annoyed I am at a thread, I don’t report it. I have only reported one thread and it was for an important reason. Not because we didn’t see eye to eye or because I was annoyed.

I personally feel the bashing is out of control.

Your OP was actually quite impartial, but what was the first response? “Who do the SSPX think they are?”. That’s what ringil said. Notice my post was in response to him.

That is not prayerful, or trying to understand. That is trying to rile up a mob.

You start thread after thread about the SSPX. It is as if because you had a bad experience, you want to destroy them. They are the children of God too and you won’t succeed.

It’s fine to discuss the SSPX, but not with hatred or glee, but in prayer.

Yes, please DO follow the link and read the entire article so you can understand the source.

Looks like someone needs to take a lesson in charity. This obsession with the SSPX is not healthy, you think they’re wrong, fine we get it, you had a bad experience, I’m sorry but that doesnt justify this need for constant SSPX bashing. Theres no need to bash anyone.

I am going to try again to get an answer to a question that has plagued me about this whole situation.
It is not my intent to bash, I sincerely want to understand the SSPX position, because quite honestly, it baffles me. :o

I know little of the SSPX as they are not active in my diocese. We do have, and have had for at least 15 years that I know of, a weekly EF, @ 1pm on Sunday in one of the most beautiful churches in our diocese.
I have attended a few of times over the years and have found that the EF is not for me, but I respect the feelings of those who prefer it, and I am glad that the Holy Father has liberalized it’s use for those who want it.

My understanding of the SSPX situation is that it really all boils down to AB Lefevrbe consecrating 4 Bishops without the approval of the Holy Father.
I understand that he (the AB) believed that he was acting correctly because he believed the Church to be in “grave danger”. I understand that he was acting out of what his conscience was telling him to do and what he believed to be the right thing.

However, “the Boss” said “NO”! The AB did it anyway.

My understanding is that the AB said it was because he was upholding the Tradition of the Church.
I understand that that is what he believed, but isn’t also Tradition that the Pope has the final word? 🤷

How do they (the SSPX) and those who sympathize with them, justify this act of willful disobedience, that at it’s very core is the antithesis of Traditional?

And, again, I am not trying to bash anyone or the SSPX, I am merely trying to understand.
