Latin and Eastern fasting

O.K. so I know that we Latin Rite Catholics can fulfill our Sunday Obligation in an Eastern Catholic Church. As Latins we fast only one hour before receiving but don’t Eastern Catholics have a different Eucharistic Fast and how does a Latin fast when approaching the eucharist in an eastern/Maronite/Geez etc. . . church?

If a Latin Catholic is visiting an Eastern Catholic Church and wishes to receive the Holy Mysteries there - he/she should prepare as they would in their own Church - ie a 1 hour fast and Confession if it is required.

If I and Eastern Catholic were unable to get to my own parish and attended a Latin Catholic one - then I would prepare as I would normally do in my own parish - ie fast from my evening meal on the evening before , read the Prayers my Spiritual Father has 'prescribed ’ for me in preparation , next morning read 3rd and 6th Hours and then attend Liturgy and Receive the Holy Mystery

Every Byzantine Rite Catholic Church I have been to follows the Roman fast. Byzantine Ruthenian or Ukrainian Greek Catholic in my experience. While some may fast longer, the one hour fast is pretty much standard.
The Orthodox fast from midnight until communion. Even if people are not going to receive communion many still fast.

What wannabee is talking about is a practice that is proscribed by a spiritual father (what latin’s call a spiritual director).

Some times a spiritual father (director) will proscribe stricter (or even looser) restrictions upon a person.

I said prescribe and I really did mean that

Also please note I said it was what I did . I equally know that there are many latins who fast more than the 1 hour pre-Communion fast prescribed by the Church.

I thought I had made it quite clear that you follow what is done in your own Particular Church

I know you said that, I was responded to mgy100 as he is correct in stating that the Ruthenian and Ukrainian laws are the same as the Latin.

But yes, we may do more if we wish or if we are prescribed to.

Gosh eastern Catholics really take their fasting seriously! I really admire that. I am especially interested in the Geez Rite- both historically and liturgically. Now those guys fast like crazy! I think I heard somewhere that the Geez Rite is celebrated either somewhere in Vatican City or in some place of prominance in Rome.
