I used to subscribe to it, but I let it lapse.

I have quite a few copies, some very early ones.

I liked the history and biographical articles (one of them was on the Jesuit chaplain of the WWII battleship USS Franklin; a ship that my late father was on helped in the rescue operations when the Franklin was attacked by the Japanese). The theological and philosophical stuff went 'way over my head.

I have audio tapes of talks made at their conferences. My favorite speaker was Father James McLucas, who was the Editor at one time. Does anyone know what happened to him after he was canonically suspended-or if the suspension was ever lifted? I know that he wasn’t because of allegations of sexual abuse (I want to make that PERFECTLY CLEAR). Maybe he ruffled too many episcopal feathers in his writings and talks for the magazine…he was very outspoken and didn’t pull any punches…

A year or so back, i read that the New Oxford Review had become a bit extreme. Any comments?

Their ads in other mags, featuring “Fr Bozo” or other trendies, were a laugh.

Is the New Oxford Review printed in a magazine format or newspaper format?

I just received a free copy of the Remnant and I was surprised to see it comes in a newspaper format.

Truelight, you should send for a copy of “Homiletics and Pastoral Review”. Another great magazine. Fr. Ken Baker used to edit the mag. I believe he is retired now out in our area, (NW).

New Oxford Review is in magazine format also.

The Latin Mass magazine is excellent. Its a must have.

The New Oxford Review is in magazine format. This too is an excellent magazine. It is known for publishing “extreme” comics (such as a catholic grilling hamburgers saying: “I’d rather be roasting heretics.” But when you get the magazine you’ll understand the context.) The NOR does have a slightly sarcastic writing style, apart from contributed articles, but an reader should appreciate this, as there are already enough sober tradionalist catholic magazines.

After January 2012, they will stop the print version of Homiletics and Pastoral review.

I purchased two samples of the New Oxford Review and I really liked them.

Interestingly enough in one of the issues they referred to when they “swam the tiber”. Apparently, they used to be an Episcoplian mg and turned Catholic. Very interesting.
