The chants are stuff of childhood memory for today’s middle-aged Catholics, but a ritual that has lately been resurrected and restored in the Archdiocese of Seattle – the Tridentine rite Latin high mass.

In what he calls a “personal parish, not a geographic parish,” Archbishop Alex Brunett a year ago authorized patient advocates of restoring the Latin liturgy to form North American Martyrs parish in Seattle.

About 500 people packed into its temporary home, St. Alphonsus Church in Ballard, on Friday night as Brunett presided over a stirring, deeply spiritual high mass. Saber-bearing Knights of Columbus in full regalia escorted the procession. Gregorian music wafted down from the choir loft, while sweet-smelling incense filled the air. …"

Well, it looks like the Archdiocese of Seattle has come a long way from the clown and balloon mass! This news of a Traditional Latin Mass community and the Archbishop’s approval and support of it is very encouraging and inspirational.

The newspaper claim about 500, yet Fr. Saguto and many of the organizers said they gave communion to over 600 and that not all went to communion. whatever the case it was a wonderful Mass.

Our thanks to the Archbishop for giving permission to the TLM community.

Have you ever seen a clown or balloon mass in the Archdiocese Seattleor anywhere else?
 
No, Cluny, I have never personally seen a “clown” Mass, but I did survive the “Hunthausen” era here in the Northwest. And that was similar in some respects.

It was a very amazing mass and I thank God for being able to attend it.
 
For a forum on “Traditional Catholicism”, it is surprisingly that this is news. There’s been a Traditional Mass in Seattle for years.
 
True, rfpapcun, but not one like this and so well publicized. The Abp has never step forward like this either.

The TLM had been granted a “space” in the old Josephinum hotel and the elderly Fr. Reichmann said the Mass there for years. The location was not “choice” nor was there adequate parking. But the TLM community held fast.

Una Voce western Washinton kept the pressure on as did other groups from Tacoma and southwest Washington and Port Angeles.

So if the press wants to pronounce that “the Latin Mass returns” I’m certainly not one to criticize the wording.

Didn’t hear a whole lot about the Solemn High Dominican Mass at Blessed Sacrament back in August of 2008. They gave communion to over 900. The church was packed/standing room only. It was magnificent.

So this Mass was VERY different in that the Archbishop put his “seal of approval” on it.

Let us pray that his Excellency keeps his word about a permanent home for the FSSP parish.
 
See if you can find this…I really got alot out of it. Google…“Father Donald Kloster Tridentine Latin Mass”…and his four short talks on this topic can be found on youtube. I thought these talks were really good…see what you think.
 
I know this is an older thread, but I looked up the word “Tacoma” in a search, and I found this. I live in Tacoma, but it would definitely be worth driving up to Seattle for the Latin Mass. The parish website said they have a Latin Mass on First Friday evenings. Does this mean the first Friday of every month? I’m not all that familar with certain Catholic terms, I suppose.

I’ve been attending the occasional daily mass at St. Leo’s in Tacoma, as I can walk to it during my lunch break from work, but I would love to attend a Latin Mass again. I attended a couple in Savannah, Georgia, while I was in the Army, and they were amazingly reverent and beautiful.

There is a Mass (EF) every day of the week at either Holy Rood chapel or St. Alphonsus in Ballard.

Go to this web site for details www.northamericanmartyrs.org . They have the complete schedule there. BTW, “first Friday” and “first Saturday” refer to the first Friday and Saturdays of each month.

I know its a pretty good drive from Tacoma but I live 120 miles each way from Mass.
