What are some Latin Mass Settings that would be appropriate (and I suppose short enough) for a novus ordo wedding mass? Basically the wedding mass would take place in English but the Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus and Agnus Dei would be in Greek/Latin.

I’m just hoping to get a nice list. Thanks!

You have several hundred years of Greek/Latin music to select from, including Bach, Mozart, Palestrina et al, many which can be viewed on Youtube, from simple chant to Jubilate Deo to full orchestra and choir music. Sounds like a great undertaking. Good luck.

This is a question for your parish Music Director who should have plenty of options for you.

The Kyriale (applicable to all forms of the Roman Rite) provides the standard chant tones for the Ordinary of the Mass. For a wedding, Masses IV, VIII and XI would be great options IMHO.

That would very much depend on the parish. The MD at my parish wouldn’t know a Latin setting if it came up and bit her.

In case you think I’m exaggerating, when the new Canadian hymnal came out in 2011, she didn’t even look at the section marked “Chants.” Why should she? After all, it only contained all the settings from the Roman Missal. She said she didn’t know what it meant. So far, no one in our parish has heard the chant setting of the new translation.

OP, I would direct to this website
adoremus.org/JubilateDeo.html

Missa de Angelis is very good! I also like Missa de Requiem. St. Benedict Catholic Church in Richmond, Virginia does a very good job at doing a Latin setting. Also, in the Roman Missal, 3rd Ed. you will find latin mass settings too.

I’m not entirely sure that a MIssa de Requiem is entirely appropriate for a wedding Mass.

On the other hand, maybe it is. It depends on one’s perspective 😃

Missa de Angelis is a bit overdone IMHO, but it has the advantage that many people know it. Orbis Factor (Mass XI) is very good and very doable for most. It has the advantage of being Gregorian chant, whereas Missa Angelis is really neo-Gregorian.
