You’re absolutely right about that. I think the English Mass today still follows the 1975 Missal, though there is a more current version available.
Having said that, one good thing about the 1970 Novus Ordo was its sense to normalcy. Starting in 1963, liturgical changes were chaotic, nonuniform and very unstable. Led to different translations and many canons. Every Sunday became a surprise. The first Novus Ordo was rejected by the bishops in 1967. There were starting to use like 20 different canons in the Mass. in 1969 Pope Paul in effect then said “no more canons, Here are four that we should stick to.” And the rest is history.
