Even though I love the TLM, my favorite Mass all time was a mixture of both Latin and English NO said by one of the priests in my hometown back in the 1980’s and early 1990’s. This priest tried to keep as much of the TLM culture in the NO as he could get away with. But it went pretty much like this:
Asperges Me/Vidi Aquam - Sung in Latin
Confiteor - English
Kyrie - Sung in Greek
Gloria in Excelsis - Sung in Latin
1st Reading/Responsorial/2nd Reading/Alleluia - English
Gospel - English
Homily - English
Credo - Sung in Latin
ALWAYS ROMAN CANON WAS USED - English
Sanctus - Sung in Latin
Our Father - Chanted in English
Agnus Dei - Sung in Latin
Father chanted most all of the priest’s responses (preface, minor elevation, etc) in English. He wore spendid vestments and a biretta. Altar Boys wore cassocks. Communion was received on the tongue kneeling at the altar rail. The Latin Mass choir always sung this Mass accompanied by a tremendous organist and magnificent pipe organ. Only traditional Catholic hymns were sung they were a good mixture of English and Latin. The high altar was (and still is) there. Except for the table altar which was installed, no wreckovation had been done to this Church.
In my mind, this is the outline of the Mass called for by Sancrosantum Concillium and Vatican II. It had just the right mixture of fixed Latin with the changable vernacular. If I could only find a Mass like this again, I think I would be in heaven.
