How many of you have been to a Eastern Catholic service?

If you have which one did you go to?

I go to a Maronite Catholic parish. I consider this more or less my home parish now as it’s where I go on a regular basis.

I have also gone to a Byzantine Catholic parish in Houston. I would prefer Byzantine if it were available in my city, but alas it is not.

I have been to a Ukranian Catholic Greek Church (UGCC) Divine Liturgy on a few occasions.

In NYC (and the surrounding tri-state area for those who risk the venture ;)) there are many Eastern Catholic parishes, a few of which also serve as cathedrals for local eparchies.
  1. Saint George UGCC has the most liturgies held during the week. On late Sunday afternoons the Divine Liturgy is served in English. Other times it is in the default liturgical and vernacular language. Simply beautiful liturgy and structure.
  2. Saint Michael’s Russian Catholic Chapel. Located behind the Minor Basilica of Saint Patrick’s Old Cathedral in what used to be the chancery for the Archdiocese of NY, one will find an intimate and intricate sacred site. Vespers is served on Saturday evenings at 6PM and Divine Liturgy is served at 11AM followed by a coffee hour. English is used along with other languages familiar to the Byzantine Rite.

I’ll pop into a Maronite or Melkite liturgy once in a while to switch things up.

Attended a Maronite Catholic Mass around 1990.

Won’t be doing so again in the near term, as the nearest MC congregation is now 150 miles away.

I would like to, but don’t know how to behave. Also DH just wants short and sweet and out of there.😦 I’m guessing the Byzantine wouldn’t qualify.

I used to regularly attend a Ruthenian Catholic Church. I still go on some of their feast days. Sometimes I go to a Ukrainian Catholic Church. I have been to the Maronite Catholic Cathedral once and spent a few days on retreat at the Maronite monastery in MA. I have been to the Coptic Catholic parish in Brooklyn, the Russian Catholic chapel in NYC twice a Syro-Malakara Catholic parish once. I plan on going to their new cathedral this Sunday. I go to a Melkite parish in CT when I visit my friend there.

How short? The Ruthenian parish by me usually finishes DL in little under an hour. Don’t know how it is throughout the country though.

I have been to Etheopian Orthodox, if it counts.

A bi-ritual priest at our parish celebrated Syro-Malabar Divine Liturgy for his 25th anniversary.

I would like to go to the Melkite Church as well.

Yes! Started attending in late 2010 thru Spring 2011.

My husband and I returned Summer of 2012 never to leave again; )

Yesterday, Father handed us our copy of a letter, from our Bishop to the UGC Bishop, approving our request for transfer…YAY

We are now happily Ukrainian Greek Catholics…

Peace in Christ, Teresa

The Ethiopian Orthodox Church is an Alexandrian Rite Church in Communion with the Coptic Orthodox Church. We have a Catholic counterpart, the Ethiopian Catholic Church. I would like to participate in an Ethiopian Liturgy sometime. That is awesome!

I’ve been to a Belarusian Catholic DL here in London in their Chapel; and a Ukrainian Catholic DL in their Cathedral in Mayfair. As well as a Syro Malabar Qurbana in a nearby Latin Rite Parish.

Hope you can get to one (or some) eventually. :o For the time being, you might enjoy a youtube video of some or all of an EC liturgy. 🙂

If I might make a general comment, my parish (Melkite) rarely sees new faces. But there’s one particular weekday each Lent when we get a whole bunch. It’s part of a series, with a different church each week … but the Melkite church seems to be the best attended, even though it’s the smallest. 🙂
