Are there any other latin terms that describe how the Pope is speaking when he is not speaking Ex Cathedra? If there are other terms, then what do those terms mean?
Thank you.Occasionally one sees the term doctor privatus, basically “private doctor / scholar.”
Unfortunately, I don’t know the answers to those questions. What I showed you was about the limit of what I know. Sorry!Thank you.
I did a search on Google for doctor privatus. Is my impression that the term is somewhat controversial correct?
I’m trying to write a paper, and I was hoping the to use the Pope(s) as a good example for scholars to follow. I wanted to clarify terminology before following up with my concept.
If the term is not official (and no other such terms exist), I don’t want to use terminology that isn’t applicable to my example… let alone build an example on terms that aren’t applicable.

again, no.Thank you.
What I meant was whether there were other terms like Ex Cathedra, which express when the Pope is stating something academically or voicing his opinions (within the context you mentioned)
Is there an echo in here?again, no.
Unless the pope declares that he is speaking Ex Cathedra or follows the formula for an Ex Cathedra pronouncement he is not speaking Ex Cathedra he is simply speaking as a Pastor. Are there any other latin terms that describe how the Pope is speaking when he is not speaking Ex Cathedra?
