It is very different from the KJV translation, uses simple language, and the good news is, it’s approved by the church!

Not one to one person basis, the KJV translation is distorted, a little changes of words here and there, also the distortion of meaning too, making it absurd/difficult, while in reality Jesus speaks in a very simple language, targeted for sheperds

My life changed when I know the true catholic bible, Dhuay Rheims. 🤷 After a looong time. I feel bad when I see people treat the sacred scripture as if it was a story book, capable being altered

There are plenty of English translations out there that are approved by the Catholic Church; the Douay-Rheims isn’t the only one, and it’s quite a stretch to call it “the true Catholic Bible.” Translations are translations.

I generally prefer later translations that make use of modern scholarship. The Douay-Rheims served English-speaking Catholics well for centuries, but as much as some people like it, the fact remains that it is better to translate from the Hebrew/Greek/Aramaic manuscripts than from another translation (the Latin Vulgate), no matter how good (saintly, scholarly) that translation is.

I often use the NAB, since it’s the text for readings in the Roman Rite in the United States. Don’t have a Jerusalem or New Jerusalem Bible, but I hear those are good for casual or spiritual reading, too.

The various Catholic editions of the Revised Standard Version are excellent as well.

I’m going out on a limb here, but I think she meant as opposed to the KJV or “The Messenger” or other such non-Catholic type translations. 🤷 I could be wrong.

Personally, I’m a fan of the NRSV. The language appeals to me so much more. But it’s nice to contrast it with others including Douay-Rheims which I find to be a bit … clunky at times.

Yep, I meant the Latin Vulgate (English) Translation.

If you want to read the latin one, here’s the link

To me this new translation of the Latin Vulgate, using the Douay Rheims as a guide, is the best. For the first time I understand the bible, clearly 🤷

I thank the site www.sacredbible.org for putting it up…

If you have problems in understanding the bible, please download the bible above. It will change your perspective. and your life.

Jesus is alive! He speaks very clearly… not ambiguously. The translator makes it ambiguous, not him…

mariafransisca1,

I mean NO ill will towards you or the publisher of the website containing the bible you referenced.

But what you say is incorrect.

The translation you referenced was accomplished by a private person who is, by all appearances, an orthodox Catholic. That translation, however, does NOT have the “nihil obstat” or “imprimatur” required for all Catholic-approved translations (at the local level, the dioscesan bishop or “ordinary” at the legal “right” to authorize the use of the word Catholic).

I am NOT saying the translation is not a good one. I am simply saying it is not approved by the Catholic Church in any way shape or form.

Okay, fair enough. I agree that “the translator makes it ambiguous,” but let’s not forget that this version you’ve linked to is itself a translation. 🙂

As is the Latin Vulgate.

When you download the bible, here’s what it says in the first page

The Holy Bible
Catholic Public Domain Version
Original Edition

Translated from
the Pope Sixtus V and Pope Clement VIII
Latin Vulgate Bible,
using the Challoner Douay Version as a guide,
in accord with the teachings of the
Roman Catholic Church.
Translation completed on March 28, 2009.

It’s Douay Rheims Bible. A Catholic bible

You can learn about what’s the difference between a catholic bible and a not catholic one here:
drbo.org/lvb/

The Jerusalem bible is also a catholic bible. It’s mother angelica’s favorite

May the merciful Jesus leads you to heaven

You keep bringing up these translations and I’m still not understanding on how you’re calling a particular translation a Catholic one. Even with an imprimatur, (which I don’t see, btw) all they’re stating is that the translation is free from doctrinal or moral errors and has cleared copyright infringements of previous translations. The Council of Trent has only recognized one of the Latin Vulgate versions IN LATIN and that council or any Vatican activity has not declared any translations of it as “Catholic” any more than any other translation.

ProVobis is entirely correct.

I had begun a thread months ago about the need for an english translation (considering english is either the second or third most spoke on language on the face of the earth, depending on who you source).

Consider this: Since 1979, with a slight revision in 1986, we have not had an english translation OF ANY KIND by the Catholic Church of the Nova Vulgata - the “official” Latin text translation of the bible.

I find that to be sad . . . 🤷

I admit I made a mistake…

I’m new to this whole catholic bible.

I thought all bibles are the same…

Turns out, we do have catholic bibles, glad to know. I think it’s the safest.

I just knew about the Latin Vulgate bible and Douay Rheims just some months ago. It gives many lights.

Here I recommend the catholic bibles:

Douay Rheims Bible: drbo.org/
New Jerusalem Bible: catholic.org/bible/
New American Bible: vatican.va/archive/ENG0839/_INDEX.HTM

You can download this bible using this free program:

Actually the bible that I use from the site sacredbible.org/
is really translated by this guy named Ron, it isn’t approved by the holy see, but I liked it a lot.

It says a new translation of the Latin Vulgate, using the Douay Rheims as a guide. He named it Catholic Public Domain Version.

I found it when I was looking for a free catholic bible in pdf form to download. And is really satisfied. I read the psalms every day, as a breviary.

That depends on each person though.

I personally recommend the Douay Rheims bible (drbo.org/). It is with excellent commentaries. Read it every day. It will help your faith.

Reading the scriptures has become a joy to me now

Sorry guys for the confusion
