Latinos are America’s last hope. I say this as a non-Latino Catholic Christian, and a staunch political conservative.
The reason why is demographics. Artificial contraception and abortion on demand has ravaged the population of Europe and North America. Since both regions have heavily embraced socialist policies, there must be a larger tax base than those receiving benefits from the government. You can’t force people to have babies, so you’ve got to get your taxpayers from somewhere. Currently, the people most likely to migrate to western nations are African and Asian Muslims, who generally do not believe in artificial birth control or abortion. As a result the average Muslim fertility rate is four to eight times that of native Europeans and North Americans. Just do the math. Islam is taking over Europe, and Canada is already following the exact same trend. There is debate as to what year a total takeover will happen, but the fact that it will happen eventually is nearly undisputed. The German government has already admitted that by 2040 Germany will be an Islamic Republic.
The only thing saving the United States from a similar fate is Latino immigration. So long as we have Latinos, preferably Catholic Latinos, immigrating to the United States we can keep our Christian population high enough to where we don’t need to import Muslim immigrants from Africa and Asia, who are just itching to get in here.

I am Latino and I always hear how Latin people are taking over America. Now I read this post. What is truly acceptable? If we all were white and walked the same as yourself? Or if you are Latino do you use your own peoples culture to validate yoru hatred. Remember the fear of Native Americans resulted in the slaughter and relocation of millions of people. Or did you forget your history?
Please do not use Latino people as a tool to validate your hatred of a group of people.

Are you saying we all should have larger families? The reeason for larger families in our culture was more working hands for the family farm, and the high likelyhood of children dieing of childhood illnesses. All factor we don’t have in western culture anymore. Less pof a percentage of Latinos practice Catholicism than you may think. I don’t think he’s doing what you say he’s doing. If you look at what is happening in Europe, you will see exactly what he said: there is a lot of immigration, and their immigrants contain a very high rate of Moslems, esp. in France and England, and Germany. Many of these immigrants are from agricultural nations and they tend to have more children than the Europeans do. The only reason their nations’ population rates are approaching stability is because of the high birth rate among the immigrants. To say this, and to, as a Catholic, be saddened by the prospect of losing the Catholic heritage of Europe, is not to hate a group of people but to on the one hand be sad about the loss and on the other hand to be very sad about the last gasp of the decline of Catholicism in Europe where it attained its full flowering.
I know and love parts of Europe. I know that churches I have delighted in are closed, sold, torn down. I know entire areas have been completely changed from the distinctive culture they held for centuries.
In the US, we have had a similar decline in the birth rate. While you may think that this is an acceptable situation since we are no longer an agricultural society, what would happen without the immigrants? In 1960, we had 13 people working and contributing to Social Security for every person who was retired and receiving Social Security. We now have 3 workers contributing for every retired recipient. if it weren’t for immigrants, we’d probably have 2 or fewer. This is why our Social Security payments have to be so high: 7% contributed by the worker, 7% by the employer. Self-employed pay in 14%. All this for a system which will be broke by the time we retire.
And who will be caring for all these elderly people? I live in an area with an extremely high rate of elderly people. I see the stresses as the adult children struggle to keep up. I know one woman whose sister cares for their elderly mother and her own husband. But now the sister is ill herself. The woman I know cannot sell her house so that she can return there, so she is stretched between two cities.
I know another family in which two adult children and their spouses were caring for their businesses, their children, and their 4 elderly relatives all in different locations, checking on them, taking care of their homes and bills, overseeing and taking them to medical appointments… If it weren’t for the immigrants, we would run out of people to physically care for our elderly in a few years as serious numbers of Baby Boomers start needing more and more care.
Who do you think will be working in our retirement homes to care for all these people? It’s not just a matter of a nurse over seeing several patients: the ratio is pretty high right there. But there also has to be round-the-clock staffing in nursing alone. And there has to be all the support staff: the cleaners, the administrators, the people who fix the meals. Without immigrants, neither those in Europe nor those in the States would have a chance of simple care, because there simply would not be enough people.
The thing is, we all realize that we ourselves have done this. It was not the Moslems who decided that the birth rate of Europeans should drop below replacement level. It was not those in Latin America and other countries who decided that the US should kill close to 50,000,000 babies.
For Catholic Knight to say that we are grateful that those who are joining us-- those who are filling our *need-- *are Catholic is a *good *thing. For me to think that my children and grandchildren will have Catholics to marry is a good thing (esp here in the Bible Belt!). We live in a nation built on immigration. For many generations, we have provided a haven for those of other nations. Now they will be bringing us what we need, and we hope, because they are Catholic, that they will carry on the best of our traditions for us, because we failed in the most necessary part of society: maintaining it.

Our Catholic school had to close its doors after 90 years because of low enrollment and non payment of tuition by parents. They feel the Catholic Church should give everything for free.
The Archdiocese of Chicago has some of the most generous Catholics as can be proved by the CCHD collections each year. But those funds seem to find its way into the hands of Latino or immigrant groups that do nothing to improve conditions for the American poor in the Chicagoland area.
As far as increasing the population of the US, it is not necessary in fact it could destroy the US.
In 1900, around 50% of the US workforce was in agriculture. In 2000, less than 2% of that workforce is needed in agriculture. The US is not getting the quality of immigrant it used to receive from Europe and elsewhere. The US doesn’t need more people that require a complete retraining to enter the workforce. How can you communicate with people who refuse to learn English.
Between the years of 1950 and 2005, Mexico has nearly quadrupled its population and now they are pushing the overflow into the US. They blame the US for their economic conditions and their drug problems when in fact it is their uncontrollable lust that ruined their country.
What is so hard to understand? Stop overpopulating the world.

As a Dominos driver I can say this crediblely. They have a 50 dollar bill for their pizza but don’t put anything in the collection plate. They expect the diocese when they do go to church to have a Spanish speaking priest for them, and it has to be one that knows the Mexican form of Spanish, Castillian doesn’t cut it. No one diocese provided my ancestors with a Polish, AustrianGerman, Or a Dutch speaking preist for their Mass, and they built their churches themselves.That news article is nonsense. Do you know the history of Catholicism in Mexico? That it was brutally repressed in the early part of the 1900s? That brave priests were killed for offering Mass?
That is unfortunate. In the 1940s and 1950s, we had the bracero program, which allowed Mexicans to come up here and work legally. Because of the grape unionisation effort, that program was ended, but the need was still there. Reach out to who. The people I’m talking about want nothing to do with the Church. It is a lie that has been spread that the majority of Mexicans are Catholic. If you want to see the Catholics, go to those Hispanic Masses and count the people there then count the total Hispanics in that town. Your going to be suprized at the difference. I won’t go in to how little they contribute to THEIR Church.

My parish has Polish priests and we do have Polish Masses. Thank God. If we didn’t have the Polish here supporting my parish, it would collapse. And these people come from miles around Chicago just to go to our church because of its Polish heritage.As a Dominos driver I can say this crediblely. On Sunday, they have to park blocks away because we just don’t have the parking around here. And the church at Polish Masses is packed with these people who always dress in their best clothes. It’s like the 50s and 60s when Americans used to dress up for church.
There are a few churches left that do have Polish Masses in Chicagoland. I was lucky enough to be born here and to attend the Catholic school and the church that is a masterpiece of the old world type.

I think the future of the Catholic Church will not be dependent upon Latinos, but rather to a return to the true faith. Let’s pray that our hierarchy depart from politics and their support of pro-abortion groups and catechize and correct the error that has been promoted so that all cultures may worship together in spirit and truth.

I can show you a church here that has Mass in Lithuanian ,and one in Latvian, but those people organized it themselves which is perfectly fine. I agree that all manner of accommodation has been given by our churchmen to Hispanics. I think it more a political issue than a social justice one.
So sad that we are virtually building another Tower of Babel, which, of course, the Lord will eventually destroy. Confused? Well you should see the contingent of Vietnamese Catholics in our town who try to speak English, but attend a Spanish Mass!

I was just bopping along the site and found this hot, hot, hot discussion! I claim no knowledge on this issue. However, I have lived in the northeast, the northwest and now live in the southwest (US). Catholic cultures are quite varied and all of them have their own charism. There are full churches and empty churches everywhere.
On a more personal note, my move to the southwest was the first time I realized I was indoctrinated European Catholic. Before that I just thought that brand of Catholic *was *Catholic. My new church was primarily Hispanic. The pastor was Hispanic. The music was mixed English and Spanish. It was culture shock to be sure. I was very very unhappy for about a year and even complained to the pastor and the youth minister that they were not being inclusive of we who moved from up north or even from Katrina hit Louisiana. I soon noticed the music at the masses became much more diverse. We now have everything from Spanish hymns to Blues. I love it. Everybody is together. Everybody is welcome. Latin, Spanish, English, and Blues. I wish that for every Catholic parish.

I mean 1) Introductory Rites, 2) Liturgy of the Word, 3) Liturgy of the Eucharist, 4) Concluding Rite?
If so they did not violate the Mass. You just do not understand our culture.
But then again White / Anglo parishes NEVER violate the Mass. Never happened huh?

I can speak, for one. Yes Anglos DO violate the mass (e.i. women priest wannabes) . Hey, if we’re talking about Mexicans who never go to mass or contribute little, or who are Catholics only by branding, then we might as well talk about the hundreds of thousands of American Catholics who never go to mass, who go to mass once a year and feel good about it. Its the same all the world over. If we are counting only those Hispanics and Americans who are true, faithful Catholics, then I’m guessing we would still have the same numbers. One third of the Catholic population.
