At Mass does a lay deacon wear a chasuable or just an alb and a stole? We don’t have any in my neck of the woods and I just want to check something I saw on TV.
There’s no such thing as a lay deacon. Deacons are members of the clergy, not the laity. Deacons wear a dalmatic over the alb during Mass, or if there is not a dalmatic available, they may wear a stole. Lay people who act as ministers of communion, readers, or altar servers during Mass may wear the alb, but NOT the coloured vestments reserved for the clergy.
