Saturday I attended the diocese liturgical conference where the keynote speaker was Dr. Richard Gaillardetz. I was a bit worried about what he’d say as he wrote an article criticizing the “New Apologetics” a few years back that Carl Keating responded to brilliantly. He’s also challenged the way in which the Pope and megesterium use their authority.

Anyway, his adress was quite good! He explained lay ministry in the context of V2 and the USCCB’s Co-Workers in the Vineyard of the Lord. He was actually a little critical in the fast and loose way Catholics define “ministry” verses “discipleship.” He basically stated that the priests and bishops need to excercise more pastorial judgement and control over the various Church ministries to make sure they truely are for the good of the local Church. I could go on, but…

Bottom line, I was actually impressed and would recommend anyne who gets the chance to hear Dr. Gaillardetz speak on the subject of lay ministry.
