Is anyone familiar with this group? I’m a new Catholic looking to continue feeding the flame the Holy Spirit lit and stumbled across this organization which is active in my parish. My parish is rather liberal and I want to make sure I get only the real Catholic stuff. 🙂

If you’ve been or are a member, I would appreciate anything you can tell me about them. Thanks.

Hi Ramalama:

Thanks for your inquiry. Communion and Liberation, commonly known as CL, is very faithful to the Magisterium. CL is a lay movement started in Italy in 1954 by Msgr. Luigi Giussani. It originally started out as a movement for high school students Gioventu Studensca (Student Youth) or GS. Then, as those students got older, they wanted to be a community even in college and started CLU (Communion and Liberation University) and continue on as adults in Communion and Liberation. You don’t have to be young to be in CL…any age is good! You can learn more about CL here: www.clonline.us and take a look at our magazine, Traces: www.traces-cl.com.

CL meets for a weekly catechesis called School of Community. We study texts together and then try to have dinner together, if the group can meet like that because we know that Christ is our true liberator and is an ever present claim.

But there are no dues or fees or any official membership, so if CL is meeting in your parish, you can really just go check them out and see if the charism is for you. Please also feel free to email me if you any further questions.

Veni Sancte Spiritus,
Veni per Mariam!

Thank you, Redkim. I appreciate your response. The group meets at my church on Friday evening and I’ll have trouble making it either this week or next, but I try the next meeting.

Excellent!

If you want, you can email me and I can put you in touch with the person involved in running the group at your parish.

Christ in His beauty draws me to Him

Also, members of Communion and Liberation were on EWTN’s Life on the Rock last night. If you missed it then you can also watch it online in the archives section or wait for the reruns this weekend.
