I’m a little confused. Mormons always say that athority was lost and was restored with joseph smith.

I was wondering if there is anything beyond in matthew when jesus is talking to peter -the rock

I guess I wish I had more solid evidence to give them why I think the athority wasn’t lost because I’m starting to think it was 😦
 
Just curious, Why do you think it was? Because they say so? Read the earliest church fathers. Everything comes up Catholic.

Where is the proof of the Mormon view in any of the early Christian writing?

In scripture you can look to John 21:15-17 where Jesus tells Peter to feed his sheep.

And through out the Book of Acts we see Peter being the prime Apostle.

Matthew 28:20
Teach them to obey everything I have commanded you. And you can be sure that I am always with you, to the very end."

Jesus promised to be with the church until the end of time, that is that he was going to guard it from straying from the truth, which he has done faithfully for the last 2000 years.

I don’t think that Jesus would lie.

If you need proof for the Catholic view beyond the scriptures, then you will have to look to the early chruch fathers which show that Peter and the Catholic church in Rome had authority over all the other Churches. But there is no writings that show or give any hint that the Church went apostate early on.
