Where did this come from?! I understand that most people my age (college @ about 18) are pretty lazy, but I have NEVER been this way before. Especially when it has come to school work. I really don’t know where this came from and I don’t really like it because it’s getting to the point where I’m not doing the work I need to be doing. For example, right now I should be reading for my Diplomacy class, but I decided to make a pointless Youtube video and lurk on CAF instead!!

Is it escapism? This is beginning to affect my spiritual life as well (i.e. I feel the Spirit moving me to pray or meditate and I just say “no, I’d rather do, literally, nothing.”) Is there any way to get past this through prayer? I’m not frustrated by it, just disappointed in myself. 🤷 Other than that, my Lent has been great!!!

Hi, I’m fighting it too right now. After noon mass today, I prayed to the Holy Ghost to give me the strength to take care of some things I had been neglecting.

One of the Seven Deadly Sins is sloth. The word itself is ugly.
Each of these seven sins has a Contrary Virtue. For sloth it is Diligence.

It’s up to us to embrace these Contrary Virtues.

Hope this helps 🙂

I had the same problem all throught my undergrad years. That is the problem with our system. They make us take too many required semester long easy classes to graduate when in fact they probably can be accomplished in a few weeks. It therefore really is just a time for fun which has its benefits but like you stated its drawbacks as well.

My advice is to not make my mistake in doing the bear minimum just to get by with the easy As and wasting your time being lazy. Get involved and volunteer for some good causes. I wish I had done more. Get involved with your Newman Center and stuff. I at least did that and it was the one thing that brought meaning to my undergrad years. However, just get through it since grad school will be different. It is easier to stay spirtually healthy when you are busy. Now that I am in law school and have to completely rely on God to get me through it and help me learn the discipline to not be lazy like I had previously been my entire life, I’m both regretting how much of my life I wasted being lazy but also potentially growing spiritually in the right direction.

I tend to escapism in the winter when I’m affected by seasonal depression. I have lots of posts on CAF in the winter. 😛

I too have this problem. I guessed that it all came from being lack of true love for God. If we truly love Him, we seek to fulfill our duty at the present moment.

What is His Will for you at this very moment? Seek and you will find.

Thank you for posting that! It’s so true! That offers me the motivation I need. Recently I’ve also found that the Jesus Prayer on my chotki really helps me “re-center” and see what is truly important and what is not.

“Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, Have Mercy on me, a sinner.”
