Hi i have a question, i have been working on these math problem for 1 and a half hours and cant do it. I asked for help from family , couldnt help, called a person to help , couldnt help, and searched up videos and couldnt help and im asking if it would be a sin to not complete the question, i really tried on the equation and just cant get.So would that be a sin to not do that question. P.S. thats the last one I need.

Tell your teacher you can’t do it and ask him/her to go through it with you. You have tried your best, and have used your initiative in getting help, so you aren’t being lazy. You just need some extra help. Don’t waste anymore time worrying about it!

It sounds like you have done enough.
As the previous poster said, you can ask your teacher for help and say you couldn’t do it alone… tell him how much time you have spent and some of the things you have tried. probably he will applaud you for your big effort! 🙂

I don’t think this would be laziness, neither would it be giving up in the sense of despairing. More like a positive act of deciding to ask where you can really get help with it - the teacher. See it like that and feel good and hopeful 🙂 And ask the Holy Spirit to take away the useless anxiety.

Time is also a gift of God so do useful happy things with it 🙂

It may be too late now, but what was the math problem? Maybe someone here knows how to help… (maybe even me, as long as it is not calculus or statistics).

As for the sin question: Laziness is actually a kind of fear, where the difficulty of something seems so great that the work is not attempted. If you simply have not found the way to do it in all your searching, that is not laziness.

Laziness would be thinking to yourself “Oooh, this looks hard; I would have to work a long time, maybe I would have to get help, maybe go on the internet, maybe ask my teacher - too much to tackle, so I will just leave it undone”.

But for laziness to become sinful, wouldn’t there have to be more to it than just fear? Like… some kind of selfishness?

Well, it is selfishness - making a choice to avoid the hard labor that you fear - rather than using the virtue of fortitude to work at a long term difficult situation. It is letting “appetite” rule activity rather than using reason as the decider of activity. It is a venial sin unless it turn into a denial of God because you treasure your ease of life as the total goal of life.
Then it would be mortal.

Apparently, this person was trying to do the hard work, but the solution to the math problem evaded him - from the facts given, he was not portraying laziness. Laziness does not try to work, but only visualizes all the work and in fear of it chooses to do nothing in order to save himself from the difficulty.
