Don’t worry Holly, many of us (well, at least myself) can relate to your question, and also to the idea that we might be spending too much time in CAF. But, but,… while it is worth confessing as a venial sin, it would only be mortal in the most unusual circumstances. (as explained by others in the thread).
Thanks Edmundus, I appreciate that. You seem to be a very kind person. I don’t know if you are on my friend’s list or not but if you aren’t, I am going to send you a request. I do hope you will accept it. 🙂

It should be noted that Holly3278 is scrupulous, and it is generally advised that scrupulous people not confess doubtful sins.

Yes, I am quite scrupulous. I hate that. I guess its related to my Obsessive Compulsive Disorder which I am diagnosed with. I tend to be very obsessive when it comes to sin and religion. It can be quite the burden to bear but all well, my spiritual director, Fr. Ray, does help me a lot. A lot of times if something is bothering my conscience real bad I will give him a call or send him an e-mail and he will tell me whether or not my bothered conscience is justified or not. He has consoled me numerous times. I could never repay him.

No problem! 🙂

Yeah I can see what you mean. Thank you for explaining this. I really appreciate it.
You’re welcome. As you can see, our situations are quite different and I can only speak for myself. But the fact that what applies to me might not apply to you or anyone else supports the notion that this particular fault is case-by-case. Depending upon the circumstances laziness may or may not be a sin, and if it is it may or may not be grave matter.

I’m glad you have a spiritual director who is such a good fit for you. I am not scrupulous, but I also have a spiritual director whose guidance I need and value greatly. Our relationship is an enormous blessing to me and The Husband both (we have the same spiritual director). Like you with Fr. Ray, I could never repay Fr. B for everything he does for us.
I think that laziness is only a sin if it causes you to neglect your duty to God!
I agree, but many things can fall under this definition. Because I am a wife, my vocation is that of a married woman. Neglecting my duties as a wife is tantamount to neglecting my duty to God.

Well, my apartment is very messy but I have been so depressed lately that I just haven’t felt like cleaning it. I am afraid I might be in a state of mortal sin because of this. It is very much a habitual sin of mine too. The depression leads to me just not caring much about my surroundings and so I don’t take care of it much. Unfortunately I could get in trouble with my landlord for letting it be this messy.

I think I am just going to clean it up tomorrow. I really need to do it.
It sounds like the culprit is the depression not you. Worrying about if this is a sin or not (which it is certainly NOT a mortal sin) just makes you more depressed and drains you of even more energy and so you don’t have energy to clean. It’s a vicious cycle.

Try not to focus on all the mess. Just do the necessary messes first. The kind that could affect your health. Dishes, Laundry, Trash. Make sure to do them every few days. Also if you have a pet make sure their area is free of pee/poop ect. and that DAILY they always have necessary fresh food/drink and ample potty time. Worry about these basic things first. If you get those done and keep up with them every few days or so AND have some energy left then you can worry about the not so important things, vacuuming, dusting, mopping, organizing, etc.

I struggle with mental illness too. You are not in mortal sin. Be at peace. :hug3:
