At least they know they don’t have to worry about if their translation is correct!
Actually that has been an issue with the Book of Mormon. The text todaqy has changed significantly from the original publication. Even in my lifetime a verse that read that “Lamanites” (ancestors of Native Americans, Polynesians) would somedy b “wite and delightsome people” now reads “pure and delightsome”. Oh my heck!

White and delightsome was changed to pure and delightsome when it was discovered that blacks would not turn into white people as joseph claimed

This thread still gets viewed, so I suppose I need to clarify this particular issue.

“White” is a symbolic word for “purity” or “brightness” or “holiness” or “unblemished” or “radiance” or “having the Holy Ghost”.

Because there were too many people who didn’t seem to grasp that symbolism, and instead got hung up on the prevailing attitudes of the times, I think the decision was made to have the word changed to keep the symbolism and realize that too many readers were allowing the wrong meaning to cloud their thinking.

Peace to all–it is a great blessing to enjoy.

Why, then, did they only change that one, yet leave so many other racist passages in the book?

That is the fall-back answer NOW. Mormons taught that if blacks would accept the LDS “gospel” that they would become white. hence the “White and Delightsome”. It became clear that this was just another of Joseph’s failed prophesies, the Book had to undego yet another change to “Pure and Delightsome”. Do not let the resulting apologetics fool anyone

It looks like a fall back to me… and now I am recalling that big hole …
