LDS and the Bible

This is not to be an attack against any individuals, but rather perhaps an aid to discernment for some.
What is the rationalization that a person of the LDS uses in accepting such an extremely perverted perception of the Holy Bible and the willful acceptance of “out of context” interpretations while teaching they must be used out of context for the “proper interpretation” so declaired by a self proclaimed prophet less than 200 years ago?

LDS and rational are contradictory terms.

The rationalization is that “it’s True!”

The truth of course is that “no it’s not!” But they don’t know that. They have to be shown convingly that it was a fraud by a snake oil salesman.

Insults to LDS will only make them more stead fast.

I would watch how they handle the harassment they are getting of CA Prop 8. Which they were right on. Thier reaction might, if they blow it and cave in, be a clear sign that they are clearly not God’s Church.

The scandal of serious sinners in the Catholic Church causes many weak in faith to leave the Church and prevents many people of good will from entering the Church. They reason, How can the Catholic Church be true when Catholic priests have sexually abused minors? Or, How can the Catholic Church be true when Catholics are some of the most outspoken proponents of the sin of abortion in Congress? Rejecting the truth of the Catholic Church, opens them up to believe just about anything, including the belief that the Church fell into total apostasy and that God re-established the Church by the LDS prophet Joseph Smith.

It’s more about family ties and being born into it than anything. And once you’re in, you face serious pressure to stay (eg your job, relatives, family and friends are all on the line).

Also, most people don’t really ever stop to think about what they believe, they just accept it. When it comes to groups like the LDS it is even worse because if someone speaks bad about Joseph Smith then everyone subconsciously tunes out.

I just don’t understand how a person can come along and convince so many people that the entire Bible interpretation is wrong for 1800 years, that he is a prophet and had these visions and turn scripture upside down and they buy it. I know satan is not shy on intelligence but that is just pittyful. Even to go as far as tell people they must take scripture out of context to understand its true meaning and change the meaning to his desire and they accept it all. I just don’t understand how one can buy into it.

With the help of anti-Catholic rulers (esp in England) the Protestant Reformation was able to survive long enough to take hold. Mormonism is simply an offshoot of Protestantism, though Mormonism goes beyond the minimum for Christian orthodoxy (denies the Trinity). And I don’t think most people convert for doctrinal reasons.

Smith was only possible because of Luther, and Luther led far more into error than Smith.

I don’t know, it just seems like Smith didn’t leave a single thing to its originality. Luther at least maintained some respect for the Blessed Mother, although I am not offering support for him by any means either.
