Where, and when did this policy originate?

Is there a source for it? I really would like to see when this procedure originated.

Did this apply to JS?
 
So what we have here, at the end of the day, and after all the theological gymnastics by mormons, is what I have maintained all along ie: False doctrine, delivered by false “prophets”, to a duped people, by a false religion. Full stop.
 
What is interesting is that what is discussed in this thread and also another thread I was reading started by whyme about polygamy, is that ALL of this rests upon the issue of whether or not JS was truely called by God in the first place. If it is not true, the golden plates/BoM people/angels/everything distinctly Mormon falls apart and is not true. It does not matter if JS, BY or any other president got anything correct or can be defended by a particular Biblical exegesis if the foundation of the entire movement is false. In the same manner as Christianity and all of its particular features would not matter if Jesus was not who He said He was/is.

Absolutely correct! Joseph Smith"s character and behavior have been examined and found wanting. The BOM has been examined and found to be false. But it all comes back to him. A false “prophet.”
 
Well, the LDS ethic of family and community is still one we could learn from. Just theologically, there is problems. But I guess even a broken clock is right twice a day…
