LDS change introduction to Book of Mormon

Just another piece of evidence against the Mormons. Hebrews never came to America and why the Mormons insist that they did, I don’t know.

The really important thing about this change is that it shows that the current LDS leadership admits that all the Mormon prophets were WRONG!

Joseph Smith reportedly spent many hours being taught by Moroni concerning the particulars of Nephite and Lamanite daily life and culture, so much so that his mother reported that Joseph could describe the life and culture of the Nephites and Lamanites as if he had lived with them all his life.

And yet Joseph taught that the Nephites and Lamanites were Hebrews; the Book of Mormon states plainly that there were no other people or cultures in the Americas when the people of Lehi arrived. The Americas had been preserved from other people so that it would be a land set apart for the people of God.

8 And behold, it is wisdom that this land should be kept as yet from the knowledge of other nations; for behold, many nations would overrun the land, that there would be no place for an inheritance.(2 Nephi 1:8)

Now if the current Mormon leadership is saying there were other people in the Americas who interbred with the Lamanites and that Lehi’s descendants were just one of many populations inhabiting the ancient Americas, then they are admitting that the Book of Mormon is wrong and that Joseph Smith and all of the LDS prophets were wrong.

So much for modern prophets.

Pro Book of Mormon “scholars” compound the problem when they try to force it into a Central American geography. It just simply doesn’t work.

Exactly. The only geography that works is a GreatLakes geography, and that points directly to the Viking invasion. This is the reason why they try to make a Meso-American geography fit, because anyone who knows history knows what the great majority of the Vikings were like. Great Lakes only does a little bit less violence than Meso-American to the text, which, in general, is as racist as Viking and Nazi ideologies (ideology).

My great-great grandmother was 100% Cherokee, and based on what I know of Alabama/American History, I may have more Cherokee in me than that. My point is that I do not define myself as being Cherokee. At some point, we must see that the dilution of ancestors makes us less like them and more unique.

I see what you are saying but that if you take a look at:

Clearly then they never should have been seen as the “principal” ancestors and the idea that the American Indians were descendants is a half-truth at best (what are they, 1% Lamanite by the time Columbus came?).

The trouble with this is the mtDNA shows that Native Americans from Siberia were here 13,000 years ago. That’s well before the supposed arrival of Lehi and well before the supposed arrival of the Jaredites. So the land wasn’t preserved at all.

Ever hear of exaggeration that occurs in legend, and stories told for the message? The parallels in literature are impressive.

“Reputed?” Read about the colonies on Greenland, and the archaeology of L’anse aux Meadows, which is right where the BOM says it was.

So we know that by 600 BC there was a large and diverse Amerindian population all over North, Central and South America. These populations can be tracked and aged very accurately with mitochondrial DNA.
