LDS do celebrate Easter...

haha, it was already posted in another thread (Easter Greetings from the Mormons), it works. Apparently in the past, if General Conference landed on the same weekend as Easter, church services would be canceled anyway for General Conference.

But yes, LDS do celebrate Easter.

So are you saying the Mormons no longer schedule General Conference on Easter? It always struck me as singularly anti-Christian when they did.

We can also say that this should not be the place to mock the lds church. When mormons defend their church or relate what their church is all about…it is not proselytizing. It is just an explanation.

If you consider cutting through all the deceptive tactics used by some lds members on this site to convey what they TRULY believe “mocking”, then so be it.
You are on the site of the One True Church started by Christ himself over 2000 yrs ago–and w this particular thread, you are not “comparing and contrasting” beliefs. You are overtly promoting YOURS, a heretical one at best, under the sappy, universalist guise of “hey, we celebrate Easter too!”. Can it. The lds marketing monster has no pull here. We may both use the word “easter” but it symbolizes very different things to true Christians than for lds. Starting with the lds belief that Jesus is not God but A god. Not one in the same–but that’s another thread.

Mormonboy, I’m not going to enter into any argument you have with another poster, but I will simply state that if anything is posted that can be construed as proselytizing, it is contrary to forum rules, no matter how you spin it. Don’t take us for fools, OK?

There are at least a fair number of Mormons who have come to this forum and have created at least the IMPRESSION that they may be looking for others to convert. Be gracious enough to accept the possibility of that, no matter how contrary to forum rules, and be smart enough not to follow such examples. 🙂

From what I understand if Easter falls on the first Sunday in April then yes General Conference will be scheduled on Easter. I guess we’ll find out next year since the first Sunday in April is Easter.😃

Never a good word for Catholics defending their faith. Nope, apparently this is supposed to be a place where Catholics just take what ever **** someone wants to heap on their faith.

And in spite of your inability to see it LDS do come here and make derogatory remarks and mock Catholic belief.

Well, if that’s what they do on the most important day of the Christian year, then I submit that’s very good evidence that they are not Christian. You can’t always go by what people say, sometimes you have to look at how they actually behave to truly understand the situation. I guess we’ll see.

While it may be true that Mormons go home after their services and/or meetings and have “Easter Dinner”, within their church buildings they do not celebrate Easter. I had personally witnessed this years ago, apparently it is still the case.

While this practice is not, in and of itself, determinative as to whether or not Mormons are Christians, and there are far more substantive reasons to question whether Mormons are Christian, the fact that they apparently have not celebrated Easter since the time of the founding of their sect certainly raises the question.

Easter is the single, greatest celebration within Christianity. If Christ was not resurrected then our faith is in vain. The fact that the celebration of Easter could be preempted by any other event is very telling.
 
Depends on what you mean by “celebrate”. It’s not like it’s ignored. A nice family dinner is certainly had etc. Often times it does fall on GC weekend, etc.

But is it hugely celebrated with the profound sense of “ALLELUJAH” that many other denominations celebrate it? No, not really.

For Catholics, remember we have been observing Lent, have just gone thru Holy Week and the Triduum, so our “GLORY TO GOD IN THE HIGHEST” and “ALLELUJAH” is all the more pronounced.

One thing that is often emphasized in Mormonism around the Easter time is the fact that the LDS Church was formally founded on April 6th, 1830. So that is often a focus.

But I wouldnt blatantly proclaim that “Mormons do not celebrate Easter”. They do. Just not profoundly as others.

My personal observation of their meetings is that there is no difference between Easter and any other Sunday so, with all due respect, I disagree with your assessment. To me, it was quite apparent that Easter is “no big deal”.
