Does an individual’s medical history have any effect upon where they are assigned to serve? If I was LDS, I would not be willing to serve in an area without easy access to not just modern medical facilities, but those only found in large cities, as my condition could result in the need for brain surgery at any time.

Yes, for example if someone is handicap or needs access to regular medical treatments they will be called to somewhere with access to those facilities. Filling out the application to serve a mission involves extensive medical history and visits to the doctor so that no one misses out on what they need.

Obviously I d not know the what your medical condition is, but if there’s a possibility of you spontaneously needing brain surgery at any time, then you would NOT be sent anywhere remote. Instead, it would be large first world city, or a serving a mission humanitarian mission from your home town. Specifics would vary on your specific condition, and discussion with the missionary department.

Good luck with your mission, I sometimes see the missionaries around and about our town - they stand out because they are very smartly-dressed young men. 🙂
