Catholicboy,

all the Catholics will tell you to be Catholic and all the LDS will tell you to be LDS…
I am Mormon and I will not tell you to be LDS. What I will tell you is to pray about where God would have you go to church. If it is Catholic, Mormon, Baptist, Methodist or wherever is only for YOU to decide. Just make sure that wherever it is you stay true to what you believe and serve God with all your heart!

PJM,
Point 1. They do NOT accept the Trinity, nor do they accept Jesus as God
Believing in three gods is not the Trinity. The Trinity is three persons (hypostases) of one essence, comprising of the One God. Like the “Spring (Father), River (Son) and Sea (Holy Spirit)” from which we drink, they are one.
Point 2. They do NOT accept the ideas of heaven, hell or purgatory
The three leveled heaven is not defined in the New Testament. No matter how you restate the passage in Corinthians.

Purgatory isn’t a term or destination. It is a condition, described in 1 Corinthians, that impure souls who aren’t separated from God must undergo to gain the purity necessary for “heaven”.

The Roman Catholics, Eastern Orthodox, and Oriental Orthodox all understand heaven and accept a condition of purgation in the orthodox understanding. The New Testament was written and the Bible compiled by the undivided Catholic Church. It’s understanding, sprung from the Church’s Traditions, are kept within the Church that maintains it’s faith.
Point 3. They reject the idea of the Sacraments
But by the one that’s older than 150 years.
LDS certainly do believe and teach grace through the atonement and love of Christ, but definitely in a different way than in your church. They also believe in the literal truth of the Bible, far more literally than the post you wrote took note of. They are lovers of the Bible as the word of God, and study it for gaining its many wonderful truths and messages of a loving Father in Heaven and of the Savior, Jesus Christ, as well as the testimonies and teachings of prophets and apostles of old.
Yet, found wholly insufficient to Restorationists.

A Christmas thought

Could you imagine going back in time when Jesus was present and he spoke about the beatitudes? What if you had heard Him speak before? What if you had experienced a few of His healings? Saw and listened to the dialogue between the sinner and the tax collector? Watched as he saved the women from a stoning who was caught in adultery.
Would you not want to be with Him? To follow Him over the next horizon? Many did follow, and many stayed home.

I was with my LDS family Christmas eve, we had dinner together all 24 of us.
I was asked to bless the food, I did with Jesus front and center. “Father, let us focus on your Son Jesus as we gather tonight, when we go to sleep, when we get up in the morning, all day on Christmas and for the rest of our lives”

Before we left I let them all know that they are welcome to the Christmas Mass, ours is at eleven tonight. But they did not say a word, I knew, I hoped, I prayed, …I know.

One more year of missing Christmas itself. For me I could never go back I could never miss a Christmas Mass. Because Jesus is there, He is present and you want to be where Jesus is in such a unique way. When you know the Christmas Mass you want everyone to know it. But this would only cause insanity if not given up to God. The paint of wanting what is best for those you love and knowing you have no control over their yes’s and their no’s. But in my heart I know that our father in heaven does not dwell on these things as He gave this mission to His Son. And so like the Father himself I give it all to Jesus, hang it upon His Cross so to speak in order to remain in His freedom, in His Grace, in His peace. Love has no hold on anyone. It is given as a free gift. Plus timing is everything. Knowing that it is in His time not mine. And since he loves all those that I love far more I trust in His mercy.

You have not understood whatever you have read. LDS certainly accept Jesus as God, and believe in God the Father, God the Son, and the Holy Ghost as the Godhead, described amply in the New Testament.
Not as defined by your church, but yes as defined by the New Testament. (Purgatory is not a New Testament term.)

THANK YOU for the kind and detailed responce. 🙂

However the points I made remain valid. WHY?

Because “your church” [meaning my Catholic Chuch] is the ONLY True [meaning holder of the COMPLETE TRUTHS] as well as the ONLY Christian Church, and Faith actually founded by Jesus Christ Himself; and historically traceable back to His time of Visitation.

Perhaps you’d care to share the position of your church on the issues that I addressed for the sake of clairity in our discussion.?

Here again are SOME of what I hold as my understanding of your church beliefs…

"Other Jahova Witness thoughts

They believe that Jesus was “ Michael the Archangel.” Interesting, because Angel’s are obviously Spirits.

They believe that Jesus rose from the Dead, not Bodily, but as a SPIRIT.

John 20: “24 Now Thomas, one of the twelve, called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus

NWT and some of there Strange Words

“Proskuneo” = Greek word for worship = “god.”

“Obeisance” is the made up name for Jesus

“Kyrios” Greek for ‘Lord” is not used at all. They translate Lord as “Jahova”

“Ego Eimi” Greek for “I Am.” They translate it as “I Have Been.”
  • “Esti” is Greek for “is”…. * In John Chapter six (The Eucharist Chapter) they translate “Esti” as meaning = “into” NOT “is”. NOTE: Everywhere they translate “Esti” correctly. They can’t have it both way’s!"
Some Bible verification of One Church:

1 Cor. 1: 10”
I appeal to you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree and that there be no dissensions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment.”

Mt. 16: 15 He [Jesus] said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” And Jesus answered Him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jona! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. And I [singular] tell you, you are Peter, [singular] and on this rock [singular] I will build my [singular] church, and the powers of death shall not prevail against it. [singular] 19 I [God singular] will give you [singular] the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you [singular] bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."

Eph. 2:19-20
“So then you are no longer strangers and sojourners, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, [singular] built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, in whom the whole structure is joined together and grows into a holy temple in the Lord; singular] in whom you also are built into it for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit. “

Eph. 4: 4 -8 “There is one body [Only One Church] and one Spirit, [Only One set of beliefs] just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call, one Lord, **[Only One God] **ONLY one faith, **Only One set of doctrine and dogma] one baptism, By water in the Trinity] ** one God and Father of us all, who is above all and through all and in all. But grace was given to each of us according to the measure of Christ’s gift. "

Continued Blessings!

Hi, Pat,
'Hope you are having a joyous Sabbath Day, as is my family.

Based on your above comment, I think you may have gotten a mix-up into your thinking between the religion called “Jehovah Witnesses” and the religion that is called by an abbreviation, “LDS Church” which stands for “Latter-day Saints Church” but is officially titled, “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints”. It is also called the “Mormon Church” but that is unofficial also. We don’t share the beliefs of the Jehovah Witnesses, at all, so what they believe should only be attributed to them distinctively.

The Mormon Church has a temple in Orlando, and one in Atlanta, and church buildings (“chapels”) in many cities in Florida and all through the Southeast. So it would be well to learn to at least have a basic understanding of their beliefs, the most important of which is their knowledge that Jesus is the Son of God, was resurrected with a physical body, lives in Heaven today, will return to the earth in His Second Coming, and made absolutely true the eventuality that all humankind will be resurrected because of His atoning sacrifice and redeeming blood, shed for all of us.

Rather than reply and not know whether you have understood that there is a clear distinction to be made, I will leave it at this for now. 'Wishing peace to you and your family.🙂

***My dear friend,

I spent the past hour doing additional research on Mormon beliefs. While i’m still unclear on the differences between LDS and Mormons, I did find that is searching th term “Mormon beliefs” that the identification included both LDS and Mormons.

While we do use similar termonology; OUR UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT THESE TERMS MEAN ARE NO-WHERE NEAR BEING THE SAME. ***

The differences I articulated in Catholic beleif and Mormon beliefs were corerctly identified, however were incomplete.

For the past few months I have read and then commented on Both [for your Mormon Brothers] Awake and The Watchtower publications given to me by your fellow Mormons. I have found a consistant either lack of understanding or perhaps something more serious? in what is termed by the publications to be “truth” and clearly is not. Nor do I find what I had hoped to discover as charity in the coverage presented.

Here is a comment from your President, that I did find.

QUOTE:
Still, it isn’t correct to call Mormons Protestants, because doing so implies they hold to the essentials of Christianity—what C. S. Lewis termed “mere Christianity.” The fact is, they don’t. ***Gordon B. Hinckley, the current president and prophet of the Mormon church, says (in a booklet called What of the Mormons?) that he and his co-religionists “are no closer to Protestantism than they are to Catholicism.” ***END QUOTE

God’s Blessingsbe with you,
Pat
