Leah remini left the Scientology and is now a Catholic in fact

Yeah, I won’t get into the gossip of what reported happened, but she had a real reversion. She was one of the celebrities on a rosary video I saw. Pretty cool. 🙂
 
This thread was uplifting to read today, and Leah Remini has always been a really great actress.

I don’t think Scientology does attract a lot of Catholics, but I do think the poor state of American religious instruction in the 1970s sure didn’t help things much and left a lot of Catholics not knowing the stunning depth and clarity of their Faith. What seems to be more the case is that Scientology is popular amongst the film acting class, which is interesting as that’s a class that has traditionally been particularly prone to a variety of domestic and self identity problems, really.

What I do think is sort of peculiar regarding this is that Tom Cruise, a fallen away Catholic, is now associated with three separate female associated returning to the Faith. Nicole Kidman, Kate Holmes and now Remini. Two of those were wives of course, and Remini reports that she started having some trouble with Scientology at Cruise’s third wedding. Cruise’s first wife, who like Remini became a Scientologist as a child, has also left it, although she hasn’t become a Catholic. Something about the association seems to send people back across the Tiber, or at least back to their earlier religious roots.

Very good points. It makes you wonder why he is attracted to Catholics. We need to pray for Tom Cruise to return to the Church and I am glad his ex wives have!

Right. The thing is, the “celebrity” club of Scientologists gets treated differently than other Scientology. In the 20/20 special with Leah Remini last night, she stated that she was constantly wondering about the whereabouts of the wife of Scientology’s leader - and also that no one is allowed to question Tom Cruise.

It was incredibly good. BTW, the “church” (more like cult) of Scientology actually had their attack dogs out as soon as they knew she was doing the interview. The thing is, she deflected their attacks by agreeing with them on their personal attacks on her. She agreed that she’s selfish, likes grabbing attention, refuses to fall in line, etc. Regardless, it’s amazing that so many people take Scientology seriously. IIRC, from a special I saw years ago on Scientology, L. Ron Hubbard created Scientology as a joke (and to discredit religion as a whole) to show how gullible people are. Celebrities were an intended focus from the beginning, to help draw people in to his newly created religion.

He starred in the pro-life film of acclaim, “Bella”. He also played Saint Miguel Pro in the movie, “For Greater Glory” I believe.

p.s. He is one handsome man, and he converted his life back to Christ in his early thirties, now I believe he is close to 40.

Did Nicole Kidman get an annulment? She’s remarried to Keith Urban.

While I wouldn’t rely on me for this, as she was a Baptized Catholic, and so is he, they were both obligated to marry in the Church, absent a dispensation, which I’m sure didn’t exist. So the marriage would have been invalid for both of them.

Technically, I suppose, in the eyes of the Church Cruise has never been married.
 
Several critical books on scientology that I thought were brilliant reads:
Barefaced Messiah by Russell Miller
Long considered the definitive critical biography of L. Ron Hubbard, Miller crafts a brilliant read that portrays the man’s controversial life in a raw, contemporary, controversial and surprisingly uplifting manner. You might find it a comical, tragic, blunt and mystifying. Russell’s aim was present Hubbard as he really was and let the reader decide, as opposed to the Church’s position of glossing over everything.

Beyond Belief by Jenna Miscavige-Hill
Neice of the current leader David Miscavige, this is a very intimate and personal book. Jenna focuses on her own stories and her own journey within the cult run by her uncle.

Going Clear by Lawrence Wright
Covers primarily the period after Hubbard’s death but also briefly examines the man himself. Wright basically picks up where Barefaced Messiah left off(Hubbard’s 1986 death) and focuses particularly on Miscavige. The infamous Lisa Mcpherson incident is well covered in this.
