This is something that kind-of came to me about a week ago, on 29th February. I’ve been playing about with it since. It looks long, but because the Jesus Prayer can be said in a single breath, it actually only takes 10-15 minutes to go round all 10 decades, so you can go through all 3 sets in the time it takes to pray a regular rosary. Praying the Jesus Prayer 300 times has some significance in the Eastern church too I understand.
The prayers are all taken from standard prayers of the Church, or from the Little Office of the Passion of St Francis of Assisi.
I’d like to know what others think of it as an idea. I’m worried that as a prayer it’s too much about me, my own personal devotion to Eastern Christianity, St Athanasius and St Francis, and not enough about being open to new graces from God. But if it helps somebody, it’s been worth posting:
The Leap-Day Rosary (or The Servant Rosary) – composed 29/2/2008
On A Rosary:
The introduction:
Antiphon of St Francis:
Holy Virgin Mary,
There is no one like you born in the world among women,
Daughter and Handmaid of the most high sovereign King, the heavenly Father,
Mother of our Lord Jesus Christ,
Spouse of the Holy Spirit.
Pray for us
With St Michael the archangel
And with all the powers of the heavens
And with all the saints
Together with your most holy beloved Son, Lord and Teacher.
Our Father
Our Father who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name,
Thy Kingdom come,
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us
And lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil. Amen
3x Hail Mary
Hail Mary, full of Grace, the Lord is with thee,
Blessed art thou amongst women
And blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, mother of God
Pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen
In memory of the 3 acts of obedience of Our Lady:
Luke 1:38 “Behold the handmaid of the Lord: be it done to me according to thy word.”
John 2:5 “Whatsoever he shall say to you, do ye.”
John 19: 26-27 “Woman, behold thy son.” After that, he saith to the disciple: “Behold thy mother.”
Glory Be
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
The 1st circuit:
Matthew 22:37 “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with thy whole heart and with thy whole soul and with thy whole mind.”
Prayer of St Francis
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, grant that I may not
So much seek to be consoled as to console,
To be understood, as to understand,
To be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying
That we are born to eternal life. Amen
The 1st Commandment
Exodus 20:2-3 “I am the Lord thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt not have strange gods before me.”

Faith
OR From the Athanasian Creed
Whosoever will be saved, before all things it is necessary that he hold the Catholic faith;
Which faith except every one do keep whole and undefiled, without doubt he shall perish everlastingly.
And the Catholic faith is this: That we worship one God in Trinity, and Trinity in Unity;
Prayer to the Holy Spirit
Come, O Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful,
And enkindle in them the fire of Your love.
V./ Send forth Your Spirit, and they shall be created
R./ And You shall renew the face of the earth. Amen
10x Jesus Prayer
O Lord, Jesus Christ, Son of God,
Have mercy on me a sinner. Amen
Holy, Holy, Holy
Holy, Holy, Holy Lord, God Almighty
You who are, who were and who are to come:
Let us praise and exalt God above all forever! Amen
The 2nd Commandment
Exodus 20:7 “Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain”
OR The 2nd Theological Virtue
Hope
OR From the Athanasian Creed
Neither confounding the persons nor dividing the substance.
For there is one person of the Father, another of the Son, and another of the Holy Spirit.
But the Godhead of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit is all one, the glory equal, the majesty coeternal.
Such as the Father is, such is the Son, and such is the Holy Spirit.
The Father uncreated, the Son uncreated, and the Holy Spirit uncreated.
The Father incomprehensible, the Son incomprehensible, and the Holy Spirit incomprehensible.
The Father eternal, the Son eternal, and the Holy Spirit eternal.
And yet they are not three eternals but one eternal.
As also there are not three uncreated nor three incomprehensible, but one uncreated and one incomprehensible.
So likewise the Father is almighty, the Son almighty, and the Holy Spirit almighty.
And yet they are not three almighties, but one almighty.
So the Father is God, the Son is God, and the Holy Spirit is God;
And yet they are not three Gods, but one God.
So likewise the Father is Lord, the Son Lord, and the Holy Spirit Lord;
And yet they are not three Lords but one Lord.
Prayer to the Holy Spirit
10x Jesus Prayer
Holy, Holy, Holy
The 3rd Commandment
Exodus 20:8 “Remember that thou keep holy the sabbath day”
OR The 3rd Theological Virtue
Charity
OR From the Athanasian Creed
For like as we are compelled by the Christian verity to acknowledge every Person by himself to be God and Lord;
So are we forbidden by the Catholic religion to say; There are three Gods or three Lords.
The Father is made of none, neither created nor begotten.
The Son is of the Father alone; not made nor created, but begotten.
The Holy Spirit is of the Father and of the Son; Neither made, nor created, nor begotten, but proceeding.
Prayer to the Holy Spirit
10x Jesus Prayer

The 4th Commandment
Exodus 20:12 “Honour thy father and thy mother”
OR The 1st Cardinal Virtue
Prudence
OR From the Athanasian Creed
So there is one Father, not three Fathers; one Son, not three Sons; one Holy Spirit, not three Holy Spirits.
And in this Trinity none is afore or after another, none is greater or less than another.
But the whole three persons are coeternal, and coequal.

So that in all things, as aforesaid, the Unity in Trinity and the Trinity in Unity is to be worshipped.
He therefore that will be saved must thus think of the Trinity.

OR From the Athanasian Creed
Furthermore it is necessary to everlasting salvation that he also believe rightly the incarnation of our Lord Jesus Christ.
For the right faith is that we believe and confess that our Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is God and man.

Exodus 20:15 “Thou shalt not steal”

OR From the Athanasian Creed
God of the substance of the Father, begotten before the worlds; and man of substance of His mother, born in the world.
Perfect God and perfect man, of a reasonable soul and human flesh subsisting.
Equal to the Father as touching His Godhead, and inferior to the Father as touching His manhood.
Prayer to the Holy Spirit
10x Jesus Prayer

The 8th Commandment
Exodus 20:16 “Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.”
OR The 1st Evangelical Counsel
Obedience
OR From the Athanasian Creed
Who although He is God and man, yet He is not two, but one Christ.
One, not by conversion of the Godhead into flesh, but by taking of that manhood into God.
One altogether, not by confusion of substance, but by unity of person.
For as the reasonable soul and flesh is one man, so God and man is one Christ;

OR From the Athanasian Creed
From thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
At whose coming all men shall rise again with their bodies;
And shall give account of their own works.
And they that have done good shall go into life everlasting and they that have done evil into everlasting fire.
This is the Catholic faith, which except a man believe faithfully he cannot be saved.
Prayer to the Holy Spirit
10x Jesus Prayer
Holy, Holy, Holy
The conclusion:
Blessing of St Francis
May whoever observes all this be filled in heaven with the blessing of the most high Father, and on earth with that of His beloved Son, together with the Holy Spirit, the Comforter. Amen
Prayer & Dismissal from the Office of the Passon
Almighty, most holy
Most high and supreme God,
All good,
Supreme good,
Totally good,
You Who alone are good,
May we give back to You
All praise,
All glory,
All grace,
All honour,
All blessing,
And all good.
So be it.
So be it.
Amen.
V./ Let us bless the Lord, the living and true God.
R./ Let us always give back to God praise, glory, honour, blessing and every good.
V./ Amen. Amen.
