If I googled correctly, Leavenworth is in the Diocese of Kansas City. Can anyone recommend a parish there? Any thoughts on the diocese in general? Have a friend who si moving there . Thank you!

The diocese in general is rather strong. Definitely has some good things go going for it. There are some things that bother me. Lack of multiple confession times throughout the week can make it tough to go. Also there aren’t many evening daily mass times.

The University of St. Mary in Leavenworth is home to the Sisters of Charity. They do good in the community but are rather liberal. Changing words in the mass to avoid referring to God as “Him” and at the graduation the sister who is the president “blessed” the students as a priest would. Shooting blanks…

I have heard from those that live in Leavenworth and are faithful to the Church prefer the parish run by a religious group over the diocesan parishes. I can’t remember more details sadly.

Overall there are great things happeneing in the dioceses. Bordering the Wichita, Omaha, and Lincoln dioceses helps as well. There are a lot of great things happening in the heartland. Wichita is ordaining 8 priests and 7 deacons this year I believe. Benedictine Colleg is about 45 minutes from Leavenworth.

Don’t know anything about Leavenworth in particular, but I went there several times and drove through there many more times when I was in college. There’s a great Benedictine presence just northwest of Leavenworth! Benedictine College is my alma mater. Archbishop Naumann is pretty good, at least from my limited knowledge of him (he often came for all-school Masses at Benedictine and occasionally came to give a talk…he is also an alum of Benedictine). He went so far as to request that then-Governor Kathleen Sebelius not present herself for Communion, due to public scandal caused by her support of legal abortion.

If this is directed towards me, no I am not. I went to grad school at St. Mary in Leavenworth but have never lived in Leavenworth.
Sorry I am very confused. Was this an online program? How did attend a school in Leavenworth but not live there?

I believe Leavenworth has two parishes. One on the north side and one on the south side. The south having more modern facilities. Neither stands out as either “liberal”, " conservative", “progressive”, " traditional". There was a small catholic high school up until this spring. Many of the students there were not catholic, but just did not want to be part of Leavenworth or Lansing public schools. The High School is closing this springs.

Leavenworth is a suburb of Kansas City. Depending on how far your friend is commuting there are plenty of parishes on both the Missouri and Kansas sides.

I commuted to Leavenworth for classes without living in Leavenworth.
