Leaving Early After communion

I leave after the final blessing as the recessional begins. I just don’t want to be around the schmaltzy back-slapping that takes place at the exit.
 
So much of this behavior is monkey see-monkey do conditioned response. Ever stand in a factory and see people SCRAMBLE at quitting time? It’s not because they have to pick up their kids, deposit their paychecks or get out of the parking lot. It’s a conditioned response and it’s sad.

Leaving work for the day is one thing. Leaving church early is different.

Trust me, I make sure when its quitting time for the day at work, I am getting out of the building after a long day. I don’t mind lingering some after Mass, and/or taking time to leave the worship space.
