I have been asked a question that I am unable to answer. It is customary in one of the parishes nearby that extaordinary ministers of the Eucharist leave Mass after Communion to distibute Our Lord to the infirm. The question posed is-is it licit for the EMEs to leave Mass before it has ended?
Thank you for your response.

Yes

And I might note that they are not to stop anywhere on the way out. They should not stop to chat, grab a coffee/donut, they should not stop along the way to their appointed person or location at home or anywhere else.

At the conclusion of the Liturgy of the Eucharist, the Eucharist is to be returned to the Tabernacle. EME’s remember are holding the Eucharist.

Most EMHC’s would not fit into the tabernacle with the Eucharist! Just kidding.

They should leave immediately after receiving the priests blessing and being sent.

One goes directly from the church to the homebound. This emphasizes that the communion at home, or in an institution, is a continuation of the mass. It emphasizes the incorporation of those receiving into the assembly.

Also be leaving ahead of the rush we avoid traffic jams in the parking lot and chatty friends.

😃 😃 😃 Brother, I should probably not have replied to your post as I totally agreed with it. I was just adding another perspective on why the EMHC should leave after being blessed/sent: At the conclusing of the liturgy of the Eucharist, the Eucharist is to reside only in the Tabernacle and not in the pockets of people about to depart on their important mission.
