When I had a general confession a little while back, I had done alot of prep before had. In one examination of consciousness it had listed “have you unnecessarily remained alone with someone of the opposite sex?” and I’m pretty sure I deliberately left that out even though I’ve done that many times.

Did I invalidate my confession?

Honestly, I’d never heard of that in the examination of conscience before. I can only say I suppose it would depend on what your intentions were, and if it developed into more than just talking to that particular member of the opposite sex…

Sometimes it was more than just talking, other times completely chaste. But I did confess any impure actions/thoughts in the same confession

Well, in that case, it sounds like you made a good confession. Leave it with God in any case, for He is merciful.

What does it mean going forward? Is spending time alone (as long as you’re not doing anything impure) a sin?

That sounds like a very extreme concept. I can’t imagine anyone thinks merely being alone with someone of the opposite sex is sinful in and of itself.

Your confessions are valid for what you confess. In some instances, persons may be forgiven if the priest specifically states that you are forgiven for that of which you cannot remember. I have seen this occur.

However, your guardian angel with the help of god may be simply informing you that you should go again. This is not a penalty, perhaps the lord was impressed with your first accomplishment of a solid confession. God does not condemn us to be a better person, rather, helps us to do so.
