Leaving Sacramentals at a Church

Hello all,

just 2 quick questions I’m hoping someone can clarify, but are we allowed to leave sacramentals behind in a church (like Brown Scapulars, crosses, etc.)? I believe we are not suppose to leave behind pamphlets and books and things like that without the priests permission, but does the same hold true for sacramentals?
Also, I remember somebody had posted the canon law on this subject before, but I can’t seem to find it on the forum. Does anybody remember exactly what it says?

1. Don’t leave anything without the permission of the Pastor or at least checking to see what the custom of the church is
2. Blessed Sacramentals should be cared for. We need to make sure they are treated with reverence. So , I don’t think they should be left where someone who wouldn’t care for them might take them. Unblessed objects(rosaries, scapulars, holy cards, etc) may be left.

2a) When you pass along a sacramental the blessing doesn’t transfer. The person who is receiving the gift needs to get a new blessing.

If in doubt give them to the DRE [Religious Education]. They always need a lot of such materials for prizes in classes.

That’s what I do with all the free gifts I get in the mail. I used them when I was a religion teacher and now I pass them along to others to use that way.
