Leaving the church after Mass

I recognize your humor, Brendan, but honest to Pete! I really am embarrassed at myself, disturbing their prayer. If I remember correctly, back in my childhood, people did not chatter like they do these days at the end of Mass. We filed out, then we children started poking each other and whooping it up the parking lot while the grown-ups exchanged pleasantries.
Yup, I remember this too. No one talked inside the Church, unless it was totally necessary to quietly whisper something. The pendulum has definitely swung the other way! At least you are realizing it does disturb people, which is the first step to making things better! And maybe your church friends will follow YOUR good example from now on. 👍

I’m sorry that I misunderstood your post.

Fortunate for you that there are two churches in your area that have Exposition and Benediction. I don’t think we have one parish in our diocese that does that.
No problem. So sorry about no Exposition and Benediction in your area. In our greater major metropolitan area we actually have a number of parishes that have 24-hour adoration chapels, Benedication, and even some Extraordinary Form of the Mass masses are popping up.

I think about moving sometimes to a more rural area, but then am a bit afraid of being “stuck” in an area where the Mass is celebrated a la 1971 and we’d be required to wear Birkenstocks, and play a guitar or tambourine to join in. :whacky:

You know, our family spends half of our time in a very rural, mountain, farming area. The masses in those little parishes were some of the most lovely masses ever. We didn’t have extraordinary musicians, choirs, music, etc., but the music was far from 1971 and no guitars or tambourines. They’d either have their little organs or a piano. The church buildings, themselves, were small enough that you didn’t even need mics, so it was all natural voices for the cantors and the readers. Almost everyone sang their hearts out, even if there was no organist available. There was no real vestibule to chat, so everyone would chat right out front in the rain, snow or sun. What was also so special about these parishes was that everyone knew each other. It’s not like the very large parishes the suburbs where you can often feel lost and out-of-place.

So, you might want to take a look at some parishes in certain rural areas. You might be pleasantly surprised.

Sounds heavenly. That’s why when we retire I want to move to Ireland to our farm. Ballintubber Abbey has a small membership. It was built in 1216. I can’t wait.
Simple, pure worship sounds great. ❤️
