hi all i tried to search the forums and didnt find an answer to this and i’m not sure it should go here so i apologize in advance.

my question is that if you decided to stop practicing houdon(Congo), are there any special rituals u can use?

i still have goofer dust i made as well as hot foot powder.

or do u all think it doesn’t work so there’s no harm done to keep them? i think of them in a symbolic way. tho.

will it make a difference other than mental what i do with these items? i know Catholics dont do these things, even not in Santeria, as far as i know.but i could be wriong

sorry if this has been asked thanx anyways- Horab

Hi Horab, since these items are met to cause evil, I would destroy them if I were you. I am basing my advice on Acts 19 below.

“Goofer Dust is a very old African-American hoodoo curio used to trouble, harm, or kill an enemy. In particular, it can cause the victim’s legs to swell up and medical doctors will not be able to effect a cure.”

"Goofer Dust spells – like similar tricks involving Graveyard Dirt, Hot Foot Powder, and Crossing Powder – are quite African in character, deriving from African foot-track magic, a form of sorcery in which one “hurts” or “poisons” a victim “through the feet.” Undoing the jinx may involve ritual bathing, floor washing, or sweeping to remove the Goofer Dust. Sprinkling salt in the corners of the house is also an antidote. "

Acts 19:
19A number who had practiced sorcery brought their scrolls together and burned them publicly. When they calculated the value of the scrolls, the total came to fifty thousand drachmas.[d] 20In this way the word of the Lord spread widely and grew in power.

the Rites of Christian Initiation for Adults address this problems specifically. In addition to education on why these practices are forbidden and why they are satanic in origin, the rites themselves contain blessings and minor exorcisms, so that throughout the process of coming into the Catholic Church, the individual receives the grace of Christ in his conversion, and these satanic influences are purged.

hi Dan- thx for the reply, the Biblical verse you cited i took to mean that i should burn them in public, or is that symbolic?

i also have Florida water and come-to-me oil, since kind of items are used for good intent, are they ok then? this tradition also claimed it was a mix of Catholicism and Folk Magic, so i’m not sure about much of it.

thx puzzleannie i will do a search on the rite you mentioned. do u or anyone else know why its satanic i never did crossroads magic but someone told me by doing houdon that was playing God and that could be the reason, i’m not sure tho.

best- horab

Magic assumes that one can manipulate the universe by using special words and rituals. In pagan myths, even the gods would use magic against one another.

But this is a false view of the universe. If magic ever seems to work, it is either a coincidence or the actions of demons, meant to deceive and enslave those involved in the magic.

God has always prohibited his people from practicing magic. Destroy those items you asked about–all of them–and do it in front of your fellow Christians and explain to them that you will have nothing more to do with magic.

(These prohibitions do not apply to “stage magic” so long as the performer admits that he is not in touch with the supernatural.)

for info on the Rites of Christian Initiation do a search on the Liturgy and Sacraments forum for RCIA, there is lots of good stuff and links. This is the process by which non-Catholics prepare for and celebrate initiation into the Catholic Church. This involves conversion and discarding all sinful and evil practices and involvements of one’s past life. Use of magic articles even for a supposedly good purpose is condemned because the use of magic, sorcery, divination, contact of spirits etc. are usurping God’s perogatives and seeking to have control over the supernatural.
