Does anyone know if Discovering Lectio Divina: Bringing Scripture into Ordinary Life by Evan B. Howard and James C. Wilhoit is a sound Catholic resource on the subject? I want something with pretty clear direction. I have already watched Tim Gray’s lecture series on Lectio Divina.
(Not sure if this post belongs here or in the “spirituality” forum.)

Though not strictly lectio divina, per se, it is very similar and easy to use anywhere.
As for lectio itself, I use it often and it really is quite simple.
Select a scripture passage.Using the daily readings or focusing on the coming Sunday readings for the whole week is what I like to do.
It isn’t about theology but listening to the Word of God. But of course, if studying the scripture passage to better understand it is helpful, do so.
Read out loud, your selected scripture passage. Pause, and reflect on what word or phrase stands out to you.
Read out loud again, keeping in mind the word of phrase that stands out to you, and why. (No right or wrong answer to the question, why.) Pause and reflect on why the word or phrase stands out to you.
Read out loud again, keeping in mind your two previous reflections, and what it means to your life, your relationship with others, how you approach daily joys and struggles, and how this Word you’ve chosen is applicable to living a Christian life.
Not in the form of beating yourself up, of course, but in seeking true discipleship. Sometimes it can be helpful to include an examination of conscience. In light of the reading you’ve chosen, and your reflections, ask yourself. In what ways do I live the Word of God? In what ways do I want to commit to change? What one small change will I live that day, that brings me closer to living the Word of God?
