Lectionary For Home Reading

I don’t attend Mass daily, but I would very much love to at least be able to read the mass readings at home. The problem is, the full Lectionaries that I’ve been able to find are all bulky editions for use in church with $70+ price tags. I was wondering if anyone knows of a Lectionary designed for home readers who just want to follow along with the readings, with a more reasonable price tag.

You might ask the priest for permission to take a Missalette home. Those typically have readings for at least 3-4 months at a time. Since they’re thrown out anyway when a new one replaces it seasonally, I can’t imagine that he would have a problem approving such a request.

“Magnificat” puts out a nice hand held monthly booklet with all the Mass readings, Morning and Evening Prayers for each day, stories of Saints and many great spiritual articles. It is $44.95 a year for a USA subscription.( that includes 13 issues a year, one a month and a special issue for Holy Week). Well worth ever single penny. Phone 1-866-273-5215 or www.magnificat.com . Most Missalettes do not have the daily readings, just Sunday and Holy Days. God Bless, Memaw
 
If you have an iPad or an iPhone, there are several free apps available that provide the readings each day, and so far I’ve found them reliable (I attend Mass most days, and use the readings to prepare).

I particularly like Laudate and Universalis’s Catholic Calendar.
 
You can go wo “wau.org” and the readings for the day are there for free. They also have a magazine that comes out about once a month. Another place to get the daily readings is at “usccb.org” there is also a place to get a daily reflection on that site.

If you are looking for something in book-form, it sound like you are looking for is a daily missal. One of the least expensive versions seems to be the paperback The Roman Missal: Study Edition. It sells new for about $25-$30.

Personally, I have a three-volume set that includes: The New Saint Joseph Sunday Missal, The New Saint Joseph Weekday Missal, Volume I (Advent to Pentecost), and The New Saint Joseph Weekday Missal, Volume II (Pentecost to Advent). Volumes may be purchased separately.

Using such missals takes some getting used to as most readings are not tied to particular calendar days and Sunday readings are on a 3-year cycle and the weekday readings on a 2-year cycle. There are also feast days to keep track of whose reading may supersede the regular readings.

The ‘Saint Paul Daily Missal’ is available at Amazon for $40.69
