I am Lector #2 for this Sunday’s Mass. I have memorized the entire reading from St. Peter.
I have talked with my pastor about this and I have his permission to give the reading from memory (not looking down at the book).
We did talk about his concerns:
I am wondering what people here think about a Lector speaking the reading from memory?
I have talked with my pastor about this and I have his permission to give the reading from memory (not looking down at the book).
We did talk about his concerns:
- That I am doing it for the right reason, that I have no ego in this.
- That the people do NOT have an experience of “wow that lector had the whole reading memorized”.
- That the people do have a experience of “St. Peter called me a ‘royal priesthood’…’”.
- That these are not my words, they are St. Peter’s
- I am lending my voice to God, I am not acting.
- No mistakes, I must be accurate.
