If you’re 13, perhaps you would enjoy reading my novels. So far, only two in the series have been published. The third novel in the series is with the editor, and I’m waiting in suspense for the verdict!

There are six books in the series (assuming they all get published), and I can guarantee that they start slow in the first three novels, speed up by fourth novel, and the fifth and sixth novels are action-packed and suspenseful right up until the last page.

And they’re “Catholic,” or perhaps I should say, Catholics have a definite advantage over Protestants when it comes to solving the mystery of the series–that is, IF the Catholic reader is a devout, knowledgeable Catholic! (The lukewarm Catholic will have no clue and be as confused as everyone else!) The lead characters are very, very Catholic. The second novel is a mystery involving the Rosary. In the last novel, the titles of the chapters are the verses from I Corinthians 13.

Seriously, everyone, one of the reasons I started writing this series is because I wanted someone to produce an “alternative” to Left Behind, which, in spite of the technical inaccuracies and the anti-Catholicism and the bad writing, are exciting, action-filled novels that millions of people have purchased! When I saw that no one else was writing anything, I decided to go for it and give it my best shot. My novels are for teenagers, but grown-ups like them, too.

I should mention that the novels are about a synchronized skating team. Don’t let that turn you off without checking it out. I realize that synchro isn’t football, but it’s still a cool sport.

I think that Catholics need to get busy and produce their own blockbuster best-sellers and give Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins a run for their money!! My novels are far from best-sellers, but at least I’m trying! Go for it and see what you can do, too.

Thanks. Check out the link I posted above. There are summaries, excerpts, etc.

Like I said, I think that we all need to figure out how we can produce our own “Left Behind” type literature (sensationalist novels) that will give Catholics some wholesome entertainment and perhaps teach them a little, too. I’ve tried and I’ll keep trying. (I’m researching a full-scale mystery novel about the Rosary for adults and older teens; started writing it last summer and actually won a writing contest with my opening line! But then my plot fell apart, so I trashed the novel. But I’m starting it over again with research this winter.)
 
I saw all three “Left Behind movies.” – yep, there are three, the third being “World at War.” They got better as they went along. The guy playing Nikolai is great – he almost makes the first one watchable. None of the anti-Catholic elements such as the 'evil pope" character survived the transition from book to movie.

I wouldn’t care to see another one now that I know just how much of a fraud the Rapture is. Still, if you do decide to watch one, just look on e-bay – you could probably snag the whole set for under $20.
 
There used to be such a thing as the Catholic novel which fell out of use in the 60s and 70s. Andrew Greeley attempted to resurrect the Catholic novel by writing his own for awhile. I am not aware of any specific Catholic novels being written today.

You did better than me. I only managed the first chapter. After the journalist managed to disassemble his laptop and hot-wire it into the airplane AirFone I was laughing too hard to finish.

I’ve had laptops apart. It isn’t for the faint of heart.

I have all four on VHS. “Timeless as scripture, timely as today’s news!” Complete with Book of Revelation time-line chart.

Gotta love the 70’s!
 
On the other hand, I rather liked The Omega Code and Meggido. But then, I like Michael York.

Michael O’Brien’s novels are pretty good. (Ignatius Press.) I’ve read Father Elijah, Plague Journal, and Strangers and Sojourners. I can’t recall if I’ve read the others.

Bud MacFarlane’s novels free from the Mary Foundation are more pulpy in character if you want a light read but with strong Catholic themes. I have issues with him personally after he abandoned Bai but ignore that stuff if you just want a read.

Yes, my fave 70s Jesus freak movie is “Jesus Christ Superstar.” I have the CD and listen to it every Easter Triduum…some of the music is quite good, like Agony in the Garden and Jesus before Pilate…

but the movie is so 70s hippie it’s distracting and amusing!!!

My niece and nephew visited me this Holy Week. On Thursday we watched JCS and went to Maundy Thursday Mass, and on Friday we watched the Passion of the Christ…then went to Good Friday services. It really heightened our experience of Holy Week and they were really talking about their faith and love for Jesus. Very cool.

They were amused by the 70s hippie JCS stuff too.
 
I saw the first movie of Left Behind and thought it was pretty bad…for a B-movie!

The books I thought has suspense but wree very lame theologically. The characters were well developed. I really liked the raio audio drama edition. (I have all the audio drama except the last one. ) The story after awhile with the characters interacting seemed rather comical. But it is sad that bad theology brings the weak in faith, hook line and sinker.
 
Wow. I am glad I have the knowledge of all y’all here at CAF! My cousin’s wife gave me some movies to watch and in them were two “Left Behind” movies. She keeps asking me if I have watched them and now I have clear, concrete reasons for telling her why I won’t be. I was always a little suspect of them anyway. Being a cradle Catholic and all… I was never taught all the “Hell fire and damnation, mark of the beast, Rapture” stuff anyway. Thanks y’all!!👍

StBenMom, since my birthday is the 21st, may I ‘borrow’ your LB movies? (kidding, of course :))
