Another lefty here! I’m the only one in my family, and I don’t have an immediate guardian who’s left-handed as well.
I also write using the ‘hook’ style…Growing up I never understood why my classmates in early primary school would look at me writing utterly bewildered! I would get asked, ‘doesn’t your wrist hurt?’ And some would tell me to stop writing using the ‘dirty hand’. 24 years later, I’ve become a tutor and for the first time ever, I saw another person write using the hook…one of my students. Then I wanted to direct some dirty jokes to him as well
I have several lefty traits…was an academically gifted student. In sports I’m a bit ambidextrous…I shoot basketballs using my right and throw using my right. As a result, I’m a good tennis player with a very good double-handed backhand which has lots of control, I could even hit forehands off both wings when I was young!
By the way, August 13 is World Lefties’ Day…pretty close!

I’ve played against left-handed tennis players. They seem to have that wicked spin that throws the righties off. No wonder Jimmy Connors and McEnroe won so many matches.

Yeah I’m a lefty and hook writing style looks funny to me too! In school my teachers told my parents that I should skip a grade and move ahead to the grade after next and also suggested I go to a school for gifted kids. I never had to study, I could just read it one time and got it, or listen to the teacher explain it once and I had it. I never studied. I used to have a photographic memory as a kid and used to answer test questions by visualizing the page it was written on and reading off of the page in my head. I can’t do that anymore now though but I did it a lot as a kid in school. If I practiced I probably could do it again. I also loved reading and lived in the library as a kid. I can only throw things left handedly but I was never into sports. No one in the neighborhood could beat me at playing jacks though! 
I was the queen of jacks and played it left handedly.

Fantastic! A thread about lefties. Nice. I too am a leftie, and so is my wife. My poor children suffer for it.
