Left handed sign of the cross

Because my arthritic right shoulder is sometimes too inflamed to lift my arm, I sometimes make the sign of the cross with my left hand. My Catholic elder brother says this is fine but to expect a few possible frowns from some within the congregation. If you saw me crossing myself left handed, would you think anything of it?

No.

I’m left handed and I know people who do the sign of the cross left handed. There is no right or wrong way to make the sign of the cross.

Also— who cares what anyone else thinks???

Well, exactly, which is why I will continue to do it when needed. But I found it humorous when Don told me some people might disapprove.
 
I’m left handed too. But my left shoulder causes me pain, so I use my right hand. Please don’t hold it against me.
 
No, because I’m not watching others make the sign of the cross. I generally have my eyes closed when I do so.
 
My son is left handed which sometimes looks awkward but of course it’s only because we’re not used to seeing anything done left handed.

I don’t know of any reason why making the sign of the cros left handed would be wrong, but you never know!

Also the intent is fine after all.

I come from a fairly ambidextrous family. Mom and two sisters are left handed but wrote with their right. Our youngest son writes left handed but does everything else with his right. I bat right handed but golf left. Because of my shoulder I’m having to learn to do many other things left handed as well. It’s quite an experience and my teeth do not feel as well brushed any longer. lol

It’s surprising how ambidextrous a person can become when needed.
Pianists always amaze me, how they follow quite complex but different or complimentary notes on both hands simultaneously. I’ve payed piano myself and I never quite managed to do it, fine with my favoured hand but not both together that well. Having said that I do play bass guitar, or did, and so I suppose I can do,it up to a point.

Electric toothbrush?

That’s fine, no one’s going to call you a witch (I guess being left handed automatically made you a witch even into the twentieth century- Ringo Starr’s grandmother tried to “make him” right handed for this reason).
 
One reason to use the right hand is that in some cultures they use the right hand for eating and the left hand in the bathroom. 🤣
 
My mind is almost always too much elsewhere to notice which hand people use.

I am actually a dat lysdexic and remember in Catholic HS a Priest question me because I apparently was crossing myself backwards…🤣🤣

I had no idea I was doing so…he asked if I was of Eastern Orthodoxy? 🥴
 
I wonder if the Lord really cares ??? Considering that 75% of baptized Catholics don’t even attend church or even consider their religion anymore, I kinda think he doesn’t 😉

You are not obligated to make the sign of the cross. It is an outward gesture that was developed during the Roman times when people were persecuted for being Christians. The sign of the cross was a gesture to identify one’s faith to others as was the ‘fish.’ If you can make the sign and you wish to, then do so. The Lord will not smite you if you don’t.
 
Using your left hand signifies witchcraft, so don’t do it!!!

JUST KIDDING!!! You’re totally fine, if I saw you, I would simply think something was wrong with your right hand. 🙂

Seriously, if it was bad, what would people who don’t have a right hand do? 🙂
