2 questions:

1.) Is it legal to display pictures taken with Kodak cameras and using the EasyShare software on things like MSN Messenger? Would it somehow be illegal to this since it’s not exactly e-mailing or making cards?

2.) Is it leagl to play music at home from sheetmusic that is not exactly mine? Ex. My music teacher legally gets sheetmusic for each of us. We did not buy it but he is letting us use it. Is it legal to take my original copy and practice at home? From what I read, it seems ok asl ong as it is in an ‘educational setting’ like a classroom. Does that mean I can’t practice at home?

Just want to make sure I’m not doing anything illegal. Everything seems so nit-picky these days I can’t even play a tune without wondering if that was copyright infridgement.

Yes. Your pictures are yours to do with as you please. Check MSN Messenger’s rules regarding usage and storage limits, etc. It is not illegal to share your own pictures.

Yes, it is fine to practice at home with the sheet music your instructor has given you for practice.

Have you thought about discussing this with your priest. These questions seem overly scrupulous to me. You are not atempting to sell any of these items or use them in a way not intended by the author/reseller.

Yes, it’s true I’m scrupulous. I wanted to make sure I wasn’t sinning so I wouldn’t fall under that ‘feigned ignorance’ catagory. I wasn’t sure if #1. was ok becasue in the terms of agreement thing, I believe it said something about using the software for other things (displaying them on MSN) being some sort of violation or something, which seems unreasonable since it shows you how to open pictures on other applications.

About the second one, I read the a lot about copyright and music but couldn’t find a specific anwser. It seemd like it would be illegal if ther person didn’t have ownership of the sheetmusic but I’m unsure. I don’t think I’ll practice just to be on the safe side even though it’s a big disappointment since I had planned on practicing during spring break I don’t know. Oh and I wasn’t selling it or anything.

Practice your music! As long as the sheet music is legally purchased, it doesn’t matter who uses it or where. It would only be a problem if it were an illegal photocopy, which it is not.

Your reply seems very logical, I never thought about it that way.. I’m still very shaky though, my srupules make me fear any poosible opportunity for sin and I don’t want to break any copyright law seeing that it’s on the list of ‘grave matter’ sins. I’ll ask my teacher about it but that’s a week from now.
