After reading all the posts on this board regarding the immorality of downloading music one doesn’t own, I deleted all my illegal mp3s and went looking for a paid download site. iTunes seems rather pricy at $.99 per song and I like the idea of “owning” the mp3s.
Based on suggestions in this post (forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=40208), I found the above site that only charges $.09 per song download. I paid $25 and began downloading my music collection again.
After downloading probably 150 songs or so, I did some research on the site and it appears to be an outfit in Russia. I highly doubt they provide any royalties to the musicians and there is some discussion around whether, under pressure from the US, the Russian government is going to shut them down. I had an inkling something was fishy from the start (I like online deals, but $.09 seemed too good to be true).
What do I do now? Do you think it is still morally acceptable to continue using this service? If not, do I need to delete these new mp3s? Am I being too scrupulous? Opinions with reasoning would be appreciated!
